Those AX antennas are incredibly impressive. I live at an apartment with a huge amount of QRM so last night I got a HamAlert for a fellow POTA operator on the discord and decided to try to work him with my Xiegu X6100 pedestrian mobile style. Never had used the antenna before and it worked perfectly from about 200 feet away from the parking lot

I mostly play QRP… but occasionally, I’ll use my iCom IC-7000, paired with my Elecraft T1, mobile. The T1 is 20w max. Ergo, I operate around 15w. The radio powers up, indicating the RF power setting. But being a 100w mobile rig, I worry about frying the T1. Great video Thomas!

The AX1 is a fine antenna. A bit less expensive, although a "kit", is the QRP Guys DS1 40-10 meter antenna. The supports are similar to what you are using in this activation. I find it has similar characteristics as my AX1 when used in similar conditions. Also a fine antenna. Thanks for the QRPer, and the videos. Learn a little each time I watch one.

I have had my RGO One for several weeks now, and it is a treat to operate CW on it. Quiet as a church mouse and QSK like a Ten-Tec. Believe it or not, this replaced a FTDX101D as my CW go-to rig.

Thomas, I nearly got through from MT twice, but QSB was rugged. The receiver on that rig is amazing and the noise floor is phenomenal. Pairing radios and antennas is real fun.

My AX-1 also does the thing where everything gets loose and the tube spins so you can't get to the switch. The whip extension is also weird because the socket is just a little canted and it screws in cockeyed. Still works though.. Small price to pay for such a secret weapon of an antenna.

The AX antenna looks like a fine quality piece of gear. I'm hesitant to consider one for my portable work simply because I can be a bit klutzy and I would be likely to knock it over...that could be a problem if it was connected to the radio directly. The RGO One sounds beautiful. Thank you for taking us along on your activations. I look forward to your videos every week.

The AX1 is pretty sturdy. I think the AX2 (although mono-band) might even be slightly more study. I wouldn't be too concerned--with a few precautions, I doubt you'd ever have issues with it.

Love your videos. Thank You fof doing these. I have a quesiton about the AX-1. How well or not does it perform on 40m with the 40m coil? I would love to see you activate a park with that setup. Don't care about what radio you use, I just want to see the AX-1 with the 40m coil in action. Either way, I look forward to your next activation. You have inspired me to get out and play radio in the great outdoors. I don't have any POTA, or SOTA sites very near to me, but there are lots of city parks around. 72 and Thanks again.

Oh yes, I've used the AX1 on 40M a lot in the past. Less so recently because 20M and 17M have been in such great shape. Here's one of many videos where I use the 40M coil: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1Kil1mt8ammDpno

Morning Thomas, which PowerPole distribution unit are you using?
@ThomasK4SWL

It's the original Ham Radio Workbench DC Panel. The one you want is their new one which will hopefully be available via Digikey in March or so.

How is the RGO One for SSB? Could it perform as a main station rig with SSB focus?
@ThomasK4SWL
10 ай бұрын
It's an excellent SSB radio. You'd just want to make sure you have all of the options for SSB RX/TX. The base unit may have this, thought--just check with the manufacturer.
