I did some potato experiments this year and my strategy to maximize yield is to cut the potatoes as aggressively as possible to get the most number of plants. Then amend 2g of potassium for each plant. Anything above 2g of potassium seems to diminish the returns but yield much larger tubers.

I heard about adding potassium for bigger potato yeilds and Im going to try it next year. I'll use your measurements. Thanks for sharing!

@@TheLazyGardenerNJ It's the main nutrient to yield more. Phosphorous increases the number of tubers set. Nitrogen has no direct effect on tuber size or numbers BUT (VERY IMPORTANT) having a higher nitrogen amendment keeps the foliage alive a bit longer and prevents wilting during hot days. Those were my observations from this year. I have a source of free Nitrogen (urine) and in case you want to use that, you must dilute at least 10:1 ;) Also the 2g potassium is just my highest safe estimate. I know it is somewhere between 2 and 3g, I just haven't narrowed it down yet. Up to 2, I get around 200g / g Potassium while up to 3, I get around 100g / g Potassium.

I'm located near Toronto so if you are at the same latitude or north of me, you could easily sow 4 plants / square foot without any issues.

It's not like I do t use wood ash in the compost but yeah, I just learned that an extra boost is very important.

For most of us we are always looking for potato harvest videos there's something about them that gets your viewers excited I was very disappointed that you did not include us while you were harvesting close up. We like to see it coming out of the ground. Maybe your next harvest? I would like to subscribe

Great point. I should have taken out the first two plants before going to timelapse. I'm more gardener than filmmaker 😅
