I have a Poulan proBVM200 VS blower that will not start. Using a spark tester, I determined that there was no spark. After a tear down, I had to adjust the gap to spec. After reassembly, no start. The compression is at 115 psi. The carburetor has been cleaned and parts replaced...still no start. My last resort and FINAL action involves a 45 inch swing with a 16 pound wood axe in a repeated fashion. IF, that is, I cannot get this figured this out.

If it is not getting enough spark, take the spark plug out connect to the plug on top of the spark plug, place your thumb on spark plug electrode, pull starter rop,if you feel a small shock to your thumb it is getting a spark,if it is weak, check the magneto to see if it is dirty, you can use a fine grade peice of sandpaper to clean it, when you replace it use a peice of cardboard like a calling card.

thats pretty hardcore way of checking for spark man.... how about a spark tester or using a screwdriver between the engine and the bottom of the plug as an intermediary to ground. there are thousands of volt going out the plug when functioning corectly and that can damage nerves or even burn some ppl.

My best recommendation is throw it away and don’t waste your time or money trying to fix it. It’s just not worth the time or money. It’s sad for me to say this because I like fixing things but I regret putting so much time and money into mine. Good luck with yours.

I have a Poulan BP400 blower with a Kawasaki engine that has been darn reliable for 13 plus yrs. Now I can't get it started. Tried a new spark plug and air filter, nothing. I can feel the primer bulb fill with gas. I only use non-ethanol gas. Any suggestions? I probably should consider myself lucky for the length of service I have received and get a new blower. Thanks.

+Z71usa Thank you. Sorry it took me a while to reply as this blower is at a 2nd property. I did what you said about starter fluid in the intake; low and behold it fired right up and ran without any issues. I let it run for several minutes. Waited a good 12 hours and tried to start again. Took at least 15 pulls, but it did finally start and ran without issue. Think I will try some fresh gas. If that does not help I would think a carb rebuild is in order due to its age. Just glad it still runs. Thanks again.

You both forgetting the catch all that I have done for years. If in doubt... stick a screwdriver or something in the plug wire cap and hold with your fingers and ground your hand to the engine and slowly turn the crank. If you get a nice jolt then it's good. If it's a slight tickle or nothing then it's junk. It's the best goof proof way to find out what is really going on. :-) I just don't like getting bit by spark plugs. :-)

Update. Silly me was not pulling up on the throttle enough to start it. Did replace the plug. She's running like a champ again. Cranks within 2 or 3 pulls after priming and pulling the choke lever up.

do the magnets go bad? I've changed the coil twice with high quality ones & it throws one spark every once in a while. I'm stumped
@Z71usa

I don’t think the magnets go bad but the coils can. It’s possible you are not grounding it good enough. I was struggling to find a good ground.

@@Z71usa I'll check. I've checked the switch, coil, the machine looks brand new. Really strange because I have like a pen electrical tester & when I hold it near the wire it beeps detecting power but the plug doesn't spark. Tried three new plugs.

I bought the ryobi one that uses regular 3 amp or 4 amp batteries . It was a $100, the battery cost $100 by itself so that's how I got a ryobi blower that works perfect every time , no gas, . Staying gas on chainsaws , staying stihl. This lady I bang with has one of these pos poulan, they r ok I guess. It's getting no spark and I don't think it's worth fixing unless it's winter and nothing to do but even then it will probably wind up at the farm with a CpL computers when we blow shit up and make a bonfire

How you remove the plastic fan on the shaft?
@Rondogardener
9 жыл бұрын
It is a standard right-hand thread. 1/2" drive socket seems to fit better than a 13mm. I just hunkered over the fan and put my left hand over as much of the fan as possible, pressed against it with my chest, and used a 1/4" drive ratchet to remove the nut.

It helps to have a battery impact wrench. Not that it is that tight, but it will make trying to hold a nylon fan unnecessary. If you are going to work a lot on lawn gear you will find it really handy even for things like changing mower blades. I have a Milwaukee 18 volt that is great.

I have the same model you have, and you guessed it, it has the same problem. I am glad you mentioned the gap yours had between the flywheel and the coil. YOUR IS WAY WAY TOO MUCH. I will check mine to see if it is the same as yours. If so I think that is the problem. Thanks for the heads-up

I had the same problem as you did, but after doing a little more research I realized that my ignition module was to far away from my flywheel. I used a business card as my gaping tool and adjusted it closer, re-assembled, primed my bulb, and it started on first pull. Yeah

Gap should be 10 to 14 thousand. Unhook the wire going to the coil that is the kill wire. Could just be a bad kill swich. If still no spark the coil is bad.
