A few tips. No need to tap the edges when screeding. Don't trowel when so much bleed water on top, it permanently weakens the surface. Let the bleed water mostly evaporate before trowel Broom was much too early. Let it go off more for a more refined finish

I find it easier to add the water first. Especially as a woman. The mix tends to stick to the wheel barrow and clump and makes it harder for me to hand mix especially when doing 3-4 bags at a time.

@chandracox6814 300 sq ft is ALOT to hand mix. I suggest you order a truck. You can find owner/operators that will deliver you 4-4.5 yards of country. You're really not saving yourself $ unless you have alot of free labor.

Forms can be removed shortly after you do the surface finish. If you wait too long you will not be able to finish the faces, not an issue in this case however since the faces will not show.

It took me about 45 mins to mix and pour one slab. Then you let it cure for a bit and then another 20 mins or so to finish it. Yes you should be using something to reinforce the concrete.

You left out a crucial step! Rent a barrel mixer or buy a cheapie from Home Depot. Unless... you got some able bodied help that is gonna pound out wheelbarrow loads of concrete mix for ya. It's a learning process lol.

I just used 60lb bags of high-strength Sakrete from Home Depot. The aggregate should settle when you screed it and then finish it with a mag float. Hope this helps!

Have you ever tried mixing one 60lb bag of concrete in a contractor leaf bag? + 1 gallon milk jug of water? No mess , No shoveling just rock the bag back and forth for about 10-15secs and pour directly out of bag. There is a reference on KZitem. Nice job btw!

Yes you could. I purposely created the spaces to put artificial turf in between them. You could also put small rocks. You could also put the forms closer together and for the edges you want touching just use thinner boards there rather than 2x4s.
