The stopped making the 1100 because of the Reagan tariff that added a huge tax to any imported motorcycle greater than 700CC. This was enacted to prevent Harley from going bankrupt. It worked. The tariff expired in 1988 but they had stopped making the Sabre. The Sabre was designed for the U.S. market.

Love this motorcycle, back when it came out. In the 80's, I had a friend with the 750, V45 version, when mine was a GS1100E. as much as I loved my Suzuki, the Honda looked and felt like it was from another world. 122 hp, it's strong. But with the torque bands of the V65, you get an amazing feeling. Try the VFR1200. See how this good can be even better...

At 1:22 , "...might not have been selling..." The great Achilles heel of the Sabre 750 & 1100 was the shaft-drive...I test rode an 82 750 Sabre & I noticed right away the shaft-drive doing the "chassis jacking", lifting the back under acceleration & collapsing under engine braking. So, your going fast & deep into a turn & you close the throttle too fast, the rear collapses and your instantly grinding hard parts. The effect was quickly noticed on the 750 version and was rather brutal on the 1100 versions...a bad reputation.

Not 2 mention the Incredible Idioticly Dumb lubricating design to the cam-shafts which miserably wore at my friend's Vf700, and at my Vf 750. I have solved the Factory Problemsn at mine , but, it was not so easy back in 1995, when i didn't have so much knowledge as 2day.

I had an 84 that I put 98,000 miles on with very little trouble the boiling clutch fluid, a kill switch issue. This bike was not for the faint of heart and it actually did better if you romped on it. widest power band i've ever met on any engine. I ran this bike in the far West and the northwest Several times I've pulled 110 mile per hour average cruise speeds without an issue to the bike over my body had a hard time😂😂😂😂

And Also, when they Realised how the Honda has screwed these engines by Not putting an Oil Filter 4 lubricating the cam shafts , so it destroyed an Entire Engine , when the oil pressure dropped because of idiotic design of the cam lubricating and not putting the Entire oil flow trough the Oil filter , but by-passing it 2 the heads ( cams ) .

It was Not just the cams that Honda totally screwed at These Engines, but also the bearing surfaces in the head wore Very Quickly ( Because that oil line 4 the heads , went up as by-pass - Before the Main oil filter ) , plus the rocker arms wore out tooo soon ( although they were chromed ) , and once it all seized and weared , than Also the con-rod bearings died Very Soon. I have solved These Problems at mine , But Only Partially, and it still Worked Very Well : I welded the holes on the lifters on the cams , where the oil pressure Is Leaking , And Installed additional Oil Filter onto the pipe which goes from the block 2 the head lubricating . That was in 1995 . But This year, i am solving These Honda-Failures Completely on a Vf 700 from my friend , with boring the cam caps 4 the lubrication 2 the End cam-bearings , plus closing all holes on the cams , plus installing additional housing 4 the additional oil filter , which Honda "forgot" 2 install . We Will see how it will work, because my former 750 Was working Excellently. Peace with you 🙂
