I had this go two ways when I worked in a school. I have ful arachnaphobia and it's hard to hide. One kid found out and was super cute about it and would take spiders out for me and tell me when to look away when he saw one (real or pictures)... another kid found out and took it upon himself to engage me in exposure therapy. When we went on a school trip to a zoo he found the tarantulas and made me stare at them for 30 minutes until I promised I wasn't scared of them anymore. Later when we walked back past them I tried to shuffle past quickly without him noticing. He noticed and threw a full meltdown at me because I had lied about not being scared anymore. Both children have autism.

Oh yeah, never tell your students your fears. My 5th grade year my teacher told our class how she hated snakes and told us stories about this snake that lived in her house and everything that she did to get rid of it. A few months later some kids brought in rubber snakes and threw them around her desk and in her desk, it was hilarious.

just out of curiosity, how is this different to a regular elementary class? i realise that phrasing sounds kinda rude, which wasn’t my intention. i just didn’t know that american schools had a separate class for their gifted kids, and i wanted to know what the differences are between the two, since the class in this video seems like a regular elementary class :)

@@chikuuu4456 I was in it, basically we just took lessons for grades higher than us, they had some of us in 4th grade doing highschool level stuff.
