@@karleyj9706 It will be incredibly difficult as you still hold memories of the good times when he was showing a nice version of himself to you, but do not trap yourself or waste your precious time with him. Somebody like him will get mad at one little thing like this today, something worse tomorrow, and on and on before soon his kind facade fades and you’re with a toxic and probably abusive person. You might feel like you want to stay because of the flashes of ‘nice’ amidst the horridness that he truly is, hoping that the ‘nice’ is the real him and that he’ll change and better himself over time - but that will never happen as the ‘nice’ one is not him at all. You deserve someone who will respect you as your own independent individual, who will respect your decisions, who will see you as your own person, not just a being that should be devoted to him and should be going about with pictures of him on your own stuff to show off to others that you’re his. Gross gross gross. You deserve someone who will trust you enough and feel confident in your relationship enough to never see other guys as competition or any such thing. You deserve someone who doesn’t have that rather suspicious mindset that smells like it could be misogynistic. You deserve someone who is a good person, who is kind and compassionate. You owe it to yourself to break off from that toxic guy. You deserve to spend time living for yourself, having fun on your own, without needing anyone else. I know it’ll be difficult - I too found myself in a relationship like that, and it started with small things like what happened to you. But he treated me worse and worse until I found myself afeared for my life, and it took him almost strangling me for me to break it off by just disappearing and blocking him everywhere and refusing to ever see him again. Please save yourself, you deserve it. You take care of yourself and have respect for yourself - love yourself!!! Cut off all contact with that guy, block him everywhere and refuse to see him or interact with him, start afresh! Cut him and his toxicity out of your life! I know that it sounds very dramatic but believe me, his treatment of you will spiral downwards and will spiral horribly. If you need help then get it from friends or family or anyone - even me! Coming from an abusive family myself, one of the things my therapist warned me about early on when I got away was that abused people are likely to get abused by others. To avoid this, you have to build self-esteem so that no one can gaslight and manipulate you into feeling low or controlling you, and you also need to learn to spot red flags. Relationships will be tricky for some of us in the beginning as we first branch out on our own, but ultimately these can be important learning experiences as long as we don't fall for it again. I hope you're doing well and are happier without the toxicity!

Like instead of saying “I think I look like shit and that all your friends are prettier than me and you’re going to leave me for one of them” they’re saying ‘oh they’re ugly right, oh if you go out with x you don’t love me do you’. This is the opposite of good communication and if you’re doing this (trust me we’ve all done a version of it even like not saying something important because we think we’re not important and then blowing up about it) what’s important is to recognize unhealthy behavior and though patterns and change them to our best efforts as we go. That being said, like this just, you know if you’ve gone through ut and learnt, if you might be just get the f*ck out, that person has some growing to do and you don’t need to take that bs, if they say they ll changgeeeeee but don’t even acknowledge what they did wrong and do the same bs over and over again just nope no 🚩🚩🚩

“this isn’t insecure” i completely disagree with this part of your statement. “it is toxic” yes it could be described as toxic. but “insecure” is just more specific/precise language. no need to correct. yeah toxic people almost always behave the way they do because of their own underlying trauma and unacknowledged pain and struggles within themselves. yeah toxic people aren’t just toxic because they’re wicked and evil, they have reasons for behaving the way that they do. maybe this is an uncomfortable thing to realize, but it’s the truth. villainizing these people is how cycles of abuse continue. painting things so one-dimensionally contributes to toxicity, because people will by nature always consider themselves to be victims, and ignorance of where toxicity comes from is a big part of what keeps toxic people from being self-aware of their toxicity. it is important to understand this, and also to acknowledge that somebody’s trauma and personal issues do not absolve them of blame for their toxic behavior, and in fact it does not even make them an exceptional case. because MOST toxic people have that kind of trauma.

I’ve noticed that this sort of behavior tends to be overlooked with women because it’s pretty normal for us to feel insecure. But when we see guys act this way, it’s an immediate red flag and a break up is needed. Not to say that it’s not a red flag - I mean you decide what is - it’s just that guys can feel just as insecure and unworthy like us. I think they deserve to be listened to and lifted emotionally just as much as they do it to us. I’m speaking mostly from personal experience. I’ve known plenty of guys that feel just as terrible about themselves. My bf can be like this sometimes. He used to be pretty bad in the beginning of the relationship where he would behave exactly like this guy, but with some proper communication he’s done a lot better. I had the patience because I saw that he was worth it, so you guys approach this however you like.

It's not about feeling insecure if your girlfriend has a best friend, because in 99% of cases, the friend is in love with her and if he's "gay" you shouldn't trust him either. We are men, we know what men are like. That's why there is no friendship between men and women, unless she is ugly, in which case they can be friends.

To be honest, half of these things he says sound perfectly normal in the first half, but then the other half of the statement is when he gears it toward being toxic. Some of these things have the potential to be normal, or even thought provoking conversations. So its not necessarily the statements themselves you have to watch out for, its his demeanor and the direction that he pushes those statements in. So ladies, if you have a boyfriend saying stuff like this, but without the judgy or toxic parts, you really don't have anything to worry about honestly. Its not a red flag, its just a conversation. Like, if he thinks six packs are gross, but doesn't badger you to agree with him. Or if he isn't thrilled about you having a girls night out, but still accepts it and doesn't try to tell you that you can't. Its okay to feel things and be conflicted about things your partner does or thinks, because jealousy and insecurity are normal feelings that everyone gets. As long as you are self aware and try not to let your feelings always dictate how you treat your partner. You have to try and approach each situation in an objective way.
@onlyplayeryt4603

Probably the most mature answer I've read so far. I'm convinced jealousy (to a certain extent) is very natural to man (they want to make sure their kids are theirs and stuff like that). And looking at the culture nowadays it's pretty hard no to feel uncomfortable with the night out, bit if you don't trust your partner or if they don't reassure you than it's probably not a great relationship either way

@imogensyms630
2 жыл бұрын
Over time this behaviour could be controlling and pressure a partner to go along with whatever their insecure partner wants, meaning they miss out on dressing how they want, going out with the girls, going out clubbing, having friends, having male friends etc etc all because their insecure partner is insecure and controlling. A healthy relationship means having open honest conversations about how you feel and feeling free to make your own decisions, not slowly being controlled by ur partner, and going along with it for fear of upsetting them or triggering their insecurities. Not a good way to live!! If people say this sort of stuff to you, run, because it’s a big red flag for more controlling behaviour down the line. You can be insecure and not controlling and that’s fine but if someone is insecure and it makes them controlling u can’t be in a relationship w someone like that that’s toxicity xx
