I can't believe this exists. I was 13 an we used to go here 6 or 7 times a summer ... thank u for sharing #thechang

Kinda weird for this independent park at the time to get such a monster B&M. I believe this predated the Premier Parks buyout by a year
@SeanFlaharty
Жыл бұрын
That's correct. Kentucky Kingdom was the first independent park to purchase a B&M. I suspect Cedar Point wasn't very happy with that as Mantis only held onto it's world records for less than a full year because of Chang. I believe it was also the first B&M to be built, first, then painted.

My god this was when the kingdom was the best. I was in 8th grade in 97 and i remember on weekends my friends and i would ride this nonstop. I miss all these rides.

A lot of the rides are still there. Chang is now located in New Jersey and operates as Green Lantern at Six Flags Great Adventure. I haven't ridden it since it has been moved there.

@@SeanFlaharty I went last year and was completely shocked on how much it has changed. I miss the vampire. I got stuck on that ride 3 times. It was the 1st coster i ever rode. Im not a fan of lightning run lol i may have cussed a dew times on that ride. I miss chang though. It was such a fun ride.

Not sure if you know but Vampire continues to operate at Six Flags New England. Lightning Run is such a powerful ride as is Storm Chaser. Both are big hits for the park. The brand new junior wooden coaster, Kentucky Flyer, is a fun little ride also.

Just rode it at great adventure today, this looks extremely smooth compared to what it feels like now. Sounds extremely smooth in this too, i guess thats how new coasters feel and sound lol.

Stand ups arent bad. Riddler, Georgia Scorcher are amazingly smooth and fun stand ups. Green Lantern needs some good ol tlc. Imo the stand up trains should stay and they should just retrack portion of the ride. I would recommend retracking alot of the turns and the inclined loop.

3/4 of the ride has the same elements as Mantis/Rougarou but not exactly the same
@SeanFlaharty

Yes, this ride has many similarities to Mantis/Rougarou. When the park made the announcement they were installing Chang, there were a lot of folks that picked up on it being a near mirror-image of Mantis. It even prevented Mantis was having its world records for a full year.

Does anybody realize this is basically a clone of mantis/rougarou?
@SeanFlaharty
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, when this ride was announced it took the record from Mantis less than a year after it opened. Back then the coaster community was scratching their heads why a independent park (the first non-chain part to install a B&M coaster) would put in such a large ride, and one that is a taller, less steep, mirror imaged with less capacity of the ride it was based on. Once it was announced someone made a comment that the name sounded like the sound of a lift hill chain snapping......which is exactly what happened on its opening weekend.

It's a mirror image of Rougarou up until the first corkscrew. After the first corkscrew, Rougarou does a figure eight turn and ends, while Chang/Green Lantern goes around a spiral turn that threads through the dive loop, hits the second corkscrew, then meanders to the brake run.

I haven't been to Six Flags Great Adventure since they brought in Chang. When Kentucky Kingdom built Chang, they did so before painting it. It was just a primer gray. It was very bright when it opened in yellow.

Correct. It's almost a mirror image. It's taller but has a drop that isn't as steep. It also ran with seven row trains where Mantis ran with eight. Chang took Mantis's records less than a year after they broke them.
