This is why i can't go to dance classes, the teacher gets frustrated with my dyspraxia. If you get frustrated at people asking questions, you should absolutely not be a teacher, being a good dancer doesn’t make you a good teacher. Asking questions shows you are engaged and trying to do your best. Imagine paying for dance classes, asking questions so you can keep up, and actually learn the dance, and the teacher getting angry at you.

I give speech and language therapy, we actively give lessons encouraging students with disabilities around understanding to ask more questions. But they often won't do it because they have teachers like this. I have a movement based disability. By responding in this way, you are making your class less accessible.

This video clearly isn’t about processing disabilities. The dancer is literally trying to check the teacher to make herself feel better. And just a general note, not everything is about one person and not everything will be catered to that one person. So sorry if you’ve had a negative experience with a dance class, but one person asking a question between every step is disruptive to the larger class, and it does get frustrating to the teacher because they could feel like you’re simply not paying attention to them. Remember, everyone is just trying to do the best with what they have, and if the teacher doesn’t know that a student has a learning disability, that’s not something they can assume nor accommodate. That’s a situation where the person should ask the teacher during the break or before/after class for help with the choreography as they can usually spend more time to help them understand and get it instead of taking lesson time away from the rest of the class.

@@queenv22 psa: disabled people stay inside, you are an inconvenience, I repeat, an inconvenience. Do not try and better yourselves. I teach mixed ability classes, it's not hard to differentiate. Set some people up with something more complicated, and go over things again with someone who's struggling. If its a class that doesn't require prior experience or training, the teacher obviously should be able to adjust their teaching style. That's what teaching is.

Also in dance the general rule (not an official one but what I and many other dancers have been told to do) is that by watching the people around you, you can usually find the answer to your question. If not, THEN it’s ok to ask a question

A kumquat is smaller and more oval shaped and an orange is circular and and has a thinner peel. Oranges are also sweeter on the inside and you can eat kumquats whole even with the peel on because its sweet.

We actually give check boxes to students in school to make them think through the reasons for asking questions before asking them: ✅️ Is it essential to my understanding? ✅️ Is it relevant? ✅️ Would the rest of the class benefit from hearing the answer?

I wanna try ballet but i’m not a very good dancer and i’m afraid i’m too old for it. I did gymnastics for a while but quit last year and my flexibility has gone down a lot can i still try?
@Cattily
Ай бұрын
Yes! There’s no such thing as being “too old” for ballet. A lot of cities have more and more adult ballet classes, and I’ve even seen some adult dancers perform on stage! (For example, my hometown has a community-cast nutcracker, so children and non-professional adults can sign up, no matter their skill level!) there’s a good chance there’s something near you. Plus, there are several KZitem channels that do online beginner classes, if that’s something you’re interested in.
