5:58 You can simplify If(Gallery2.Selected.Name="Tasks", true, false) ---> Gallery2.Selected.Name="Tasks" If the result of your comparison can relate directly to the property you need, you can avoid using one more IF statement... That will tend to improve performance when the apps get bigger and bigger. That being said, I just LOVE your simplified approach to tabs... I'm used to putting buttons instead, but this solution looks WAY cleaner! Maybe I'll try later to use an HTML control who contains the table, tab names/tags, lines, and conditionally shows the selected tab line.

That's great, thanks for the tip Fernando! Coming from a development background, I'm so used to If statements that I guess it's just a bad habit 🙂. Love your idea of using the HTML control, I've did that before too.

This is brilliant, yet so simple. I'm sure i spend more time over thinking and over engineering than i do on the actual final build of these things! However, I've encounter an issue... The gallery and filtering works perfectly but when i view the app the gallery shows but the Form(s) do not. 😥

This is a great video. FYI, when you are writing formula to measure true or false you do not always need to add an IF statement. At 6:00, you use and if statement when all you need is an evaluation. i.e. Gallery2.selected.name="Tasks" this will return true or false on its own.

The problem with tabs inside a gallery is the mouse pointer appearance change. When using regular buttons, the mouse pointer doesn't change! I usually use buttons aligned on the same line and I link each button to the next one: Ex: Button1 X and Y values are 0, Button 2 X value is (Button1.X + Button1.Width +5) Button 3 X value is (Button2.X + Button2. Width+5) and so on :) This method is very helpful specially when it comes to changing my app into a design responsive app where I only change Button1 width value dynamically.

That's a valid point. If you want that mouse pointer appearance change then a button or icon is the only thing that will get you that. But a button inside of a gallery will have the same effect and you get the benefit of being able to dynamically pull the tabs from a data source. But this is the beauty of Power Apps, lots of different ways to accomplish the same goal

@@AprilDunnam Exactly April, that's why I love Power Apps. Anyway, are you going to post some videos about Model Driven apps? All the videos out there are really boring and your presentation is always the best.

hi April, may i confirm with you, as i know the default selected item in the gallery is not the first tab despite having the coloured rectangle there, user still need to click to select the tab to make the related content visible.

@AprilDunnam

That's because of the time zone. You can use TimeZoneOffset to make sure it's the correct date. This post on the Power Users Community should help: powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/WRONG-date-showing-in-gallery-from-Excel-data/td-p/167380

I followed it to the letter but I'm missing something: How do I add fields to Gallery? My App is not letting me add fields. I add gallery, specify connector (SharePoint List) but is not working :(
@AprilDunnam
3 жыл бұрын
What type of gallery did you add? If you added a Blank Gallery then you have to click within your Gallery and add in a Label or Text Input control to hold the data inside the gallery. Then you can tie that label control to a field in your data source

How to default first tab when navigate to this screen?
@AprilDunnam

You can use a global variable for that. In the Screen's OnVisible property set the variable for the tab you want to show by default to true
