The fact that Baldermort has started introducing himself as a servo-skull scribe honestly shows just how brutally realistic lots of 40k fans are about exactly what would happen to them in-universe lol

To be fair, becoming a Servo skull means that you did serve the imperium so well in your life that they choose that your exceptional servitude shall continue in death. Which means baldemort was probably an outstanding lexicanum Adept or high ranking scribe. Also since he has a personality it means that his machine spirit is very active.

'To a Space Marine, his armour is more than just plates of ceramite and fibre-bundle muscles, more than simply what shields him from the bullets and blades of his enemies. The armour becomes part of the warrior who dons it. Heroes have fought the enemies of mankind wearing this armour and upon their death, it is repaired and given to another warrior to fight in the name of the Emperor. Each warrior strives to be worthy of the hero before him and earn his own legend to pass on.' - Brother Captain Uriel Ventris, of the Ultramarines 4 Company 'Four bowed serfs entered the solitorium in silence. Between them they carried Tsu’gan’s power armour. It was his old suit, the one he had worn whilst part of the 3rd. Now its surface was rendered with the swirling iconography of drakes, serpents and flames. It had been meticulously artificed, re-forged and remade into a thing of pure beauty. Far superior to its former incarnation, it was armour worthy of 1st Company, of a Firedrake of Vulkan. First came the black bodyglove, almost invisible against Tsu’gan’s onyx skin. It was overlaid with an exoskeleton that interfaced with the systems of his power amour. Festooned with linking ports and conduit points, it would join him to his suit, enhancing his strength, speed and combat abilities exponentially. Tsu’gan turned his wrists to face the ceiling just before his vambraces were locked in place. He saw the icon of Imaan, he who had died so that Tsu’gan could ascend the ranks. Imaan’s power armour had been smelted down but he had bequeathed his Terminator armour to Tsu’gan after death. The marks upon the Firedrake’s wrists were a reminder of that bond, and that when he wore the suit Imaan’s spirit warred with him. Last of all, after cuirass, greaves and pauldrons, was the long drake cloak that spilled down Tsu’gan’s back around the suit’s generator. So armoured, he felt a semblance of being whole once more. With gauntlets locked about his clenched fists he took chainsword and combi-bolter before assuming his place on a throne of red-veined basalt. The sigil of the Firedrakes was carved into its rough surface. “Vulkan’s fire beats in my breast…” Tsu’gan intoned as Maikar returned and traced a band of white ash from the votive-servitor’s basin on his face, “…with it I shall smite the foes of the Emperor.” Maikar bowed again and retreated. Tsu’gan took his helmet, proffered from the darkness by an armour serf, and slammed it down upon his head...' 'Prebian also hailed from the City of Warrior-Kings. The armour he wore was slightly archaic, one of the Mark V suits created millennia ago but possessed of incredible artifice. In many ways, Prebian was an anachronism too and drew much of his fighting techniques from old tribal methods used by the first Nocturnean chieftains. He carried several blades about his person as if to emphasise his martial prowess. A saw-toothed spatha was strapped to his leg and a shorter gladius was scabbarded next to his left hip. On the opposite side was a holstered melta-pistol. Prebian’s bolter, racked next to his armour’s power generator on his back, completed the deadly ensemble.' 'They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed...' - The Emperor of Mankind

"The armour becomes part of the warrior who dons it" - quite literally for traitor legionnaires. The Tome of Excess (a Black Crusade RPG book) introduced the delicious idea that once a Slaaneshi marine has physically merged with his armour, the Dark Prince can grant him an intensely acute sense of touch in its surface (and presumably also in the razor-sharp blades, toothed speakers and spikes sprouting from it) as if it were his own skin.

They are men but also more than men they are a distillation of spirit and mind but more in body. Even the Emperor’s forces, with all their grandeur, use what humanity of old would consider tools for farming or mining Also, do you think you could do an episode based on mutation in 40k? It’s one of the big three things the Imperium likes to harp against but it doesn’t get the love the other two get. I'm pretty sure the ultramarines could have won the battle without their armor. They can take a .45 to the face and it wouldn't even ruin their day, may not even be worthy of note or comment from many battle brothers. That was a great depiction though. Again, this channel makes me more of a 40k fan than I thought I could ever be. Well done lore master.

This is your best intro story so far. *edit* I've just listened to this again and what a story. The image of the field, the thought of jubilation and then horror of when the marine gets back up again and the excellent articulation throughout. But the best part is the short speech at the end and the cliff hanger it ends on. It really leaves you wanting it to conclude but does not deliver. As when enjoying dessert it is always enjoyed more if you are left wanting more and does this leave the gentle listener wanting more. Baldermort, your work sir should be considered officially by GW as it really does enrich the tapestry of the universe without trying reinvent the wheel.

I do love me some older marks of power armour. Mk II, for instance, originally had the helm bolted directly onto the body armour, rather than as a separate piece. And the Mk V, which wasn't a specific design, but just whatever bits were left over and easy to maintain just gathered together and formed into a full suit.

It would be interesting to see that the world in the prologue would go on to produce some of the finest soldiers for the guard. Bringing that Napoleonic era order and discipline, lasguns may have little effect individually, but in organized ranks laying down volley fire, that would be impressive to see.
