Question: To do the write back, do you need the paid version of Power Apps (the $10 per app or $40 for multiple apps)? Also, if I'd have paid version, then create a PBI report with Power Apps, would other PBI Pro users be able to enter data via PBI Report (with Power App)?

Awesome Video. What if we had a lot of Employee is it possible to have it as a Searchable feild instead of a list? In you example with 3 Employee would be easy to see but what if you have 100?

Thanks for the video.. I have below requirement 1. 10 columns in database table, 1 column is blank and that need to be updated by inserting the values from Power BI and it's based on unique value let's say transaction ID which is unique for each row. 2. Now as there are 100 of thousands rows so customer can't scroll in a bar chart or table to get his transaction id so want that he should filter from the slicer for transaction ID and accordingly we can update.. is that possible ? if, yes then how please comment

Hi ,Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! Do you have an idea on how to export BI service report which with embedded Powerapps , and import it to BI desktop report? Cuz normally a BI service report needs to be updated from BI desktop report , and unfortunately since Nov. the new version of BI desktop have trouble supporting building or choosing an existing app to embed (have reported this issue to MS). That's why I'm trying to build the embedded powerapps in BI service..but now don't see a way to import it back to BI desktop, any advice is appreciated!!

Would it be possible to make a video on how to integrate power apps in power bi and pass filters when you are choosing an existing power app (unlike in the video where a new app is created). Thank you for your help in advance.

What kind of datasources could we write back into? onpremise and in the cloud possible? What is the authorization process to allow write back?

Your only limitation is datasources that PowerApps can access so that leaves you wide open :).

Is there a way to trigger a PowerBI dataset refresh from PowerApps? (e.g. click Submit and it refreshes the report it's embedded in)

ME TOO - what MAGIC did The Presenter do with the original "Quota" PowerBI table (see his FIELDS panel in PowerBI) that when HE generates a new PowerApps which contains a pre-generated "Gallery1" ... ... HIS Gallery1 control MAGICALLY has records which - for a given "Selected" (datatype = "Record") record IS compatible with the underlying [dbo].[Quota] Datasource under the Form1 control :-| ... MY own experience: USING PowerBI Desktop (March 2020, so newest version); CREATED a PowerBI report "dashboard" CREATED a DirectConnect connection to an AzureSQLDB database as "[dbo].[ISSUES]" which works perfectly in PowerBI's report canvas EMBEDDED a new PowerApps "custom visual" onto my report canvas; CLICKED the "Create a new PowerApp" button on the PowerApps custom visual; => PowerApps portal launched in Design Mode with a pre-generated, working "Gallery1" control; RESIZED the Gallery1 control (just like everyone else); INSERTED a new EditForm control Form1 SET Form1.DataSource to (via a connector) "[dbo].[ISSUES]" - the VERY SAME SQL table as what ORIGINALLY POPULATE the PowerBI "ISSUES" table that generated the PowerAPP !!! THEN (wait for it)... TRIED TO SET Form1.Item = Gallery1.Selected... => IMMEDIATELY get the annoying-as-@#$%^& error as everyone else: "Invalid Formula. Expected a value compatible with 'DataSource'" THINKING OUT LOUD (maybe I'll realize something as I post to YOU other guys, like you were sitting next to me at the office)... "Expected a VALUE": - the ONLY "value" present is what gets returned from Gallery1.Selected, which should be of type "Record"; "...compatible with DataSource": - the ONLY "DataSource" in this context would be the Form1 control's "DataSource" property which is "[dbo].[ISSUES]" TESTING A FEW THINGS: WHEN I create a OnSelect event handler for Gallery1 and set an internal variable something like Gallery1 > OnSelect = Set(varCurrentItemID, ID), and then configure this variable to be the DEFAULT value of a TEXT BOX named "Text1", Then Text1 shows values just fine !!! => There's NOTHING "functionally" wrong with Gallery1; that is, it's NOT "broken" THEORY: the "Record" datatype of each row in Gallery1 actually ISN'T COMPATIBLE with a given "Record" datatype in [dbo].[ISSUES] WHY NOT??? BOTH of these "Records" literally came (ultimately) from the VERY SAME SQL TABLE in AzureSQLDB !!! >:-( (I'm not bitter) #$%^... THEORY: SOMETHING IS HAPPENING to either ONE or BOTH of the "records" as they're "INTEGRATED" into either the POWERBI canvas OR the POWERAPPS canvas or BOTH - something so that PowerApps now DOESN'T CONSIDER THEM TO BE "APPLES & APPLES" (or in my case "ISSUES and ISSUES") :-) ... OFF to explore ALL of this and see if I can find what became "Incompatible"... then either EDIT this reply with a follow-up, OR post ANOTHER follow-up reply...

AS PROMISED... BACK WITH "A" SOLUTION... Likely NOT "the" solution, as in one-size-fits-all, but certainly "A" solution: SOMETHING TO CHECK FOR WHEN YOU GET THE DREADED "Invalid Formula. Expected a value compatible with 'DataSource'" MESSAGE FROM POWERAPPS: POSSIBLE/LIKELY ROOT CAUSE: You have an INCOMPATIBILITY between one or more FIELDS in the GALLERY control vs the DATASOURCE of the FORM control. WHERE is this mostly likely to happen? - NOT LIKELY with TEXT fields, so rule them OUT (for now); - NOT LIKELY with NUMBER fields (unless you clearly see INTEGER vs DECIMAL somewhere), so rule them OUT too (for now); - MOST LIKELY CULPRIT is... DATE FIELDS !!! THIS was MY ROOT CAUSE TODAY: - My original SQL table had 2 date fields "IssueDate" and "ResolutionDate" - both cast as DateTime2(7); well - IT TURNS OUT that this datatype DOESN'T SURVIVE the transformation from SQL to PowerBI to Embedded-in-PowerBIPowerAppsCustomVisual-to-PowerAppsGallery control :-( ... SOMETHING happens to it so that even when the Gallery1 control has (at its heart) the VERY SAME SQL TABLE DATASOURCE as the FORM1 control... ... this DATATYPE has been made UNRECOGNIZEABLE to PowerApps :-( The SOLUTION was both SIMPLE and EASY: - IN SQL MGMET STUDIO: -- DESIGN my "[dbo],[ISSUES] table; -- RE-CAST my 2 SQL columns as simply "Date" (I didn't need the time portion anyway); -- SAVE - IN POWERBI: -- REFRESH my connection to the AzureSQLDB. Period. Hit "Refresh", and you're DONE. -- CONFIRM that your 2 incoming fields now are ONLY "Date" (eg 03/02/2020) - IN POWERAPPS: -- REFRESH your PowerApp in EditMode (note: you may need to refresh to datasource) . That's it. -- RE-TRY setting the Form1.Item property once again to "Gallery1.Selected" => INSTEAD of seeing that most-despised little red button with an "x" in it... you'll see your FORM1 control effortlessly LOAD data from the Gallery1 control Yeah baby. KUDOS to the original author of the vido (wish he'd answered our comments)... HOPE this helps others. Think I'll go post on TheWiseConsultant (new channel & podcast - check it out) -Mark in North Aurora IL

@@markevogt Your solution didn't work, but it led me to my solution, REMOVING SPACES FROM COLUMN NAMES. It worked everywhere in my setup with spaces in column names, but not in the Power App Power BI integration it seems. I tried creating the App while selecting only one column to see if the Gallery1.selected worked, then another, and so on until I could see a pattern between which one worked alone and which one didn't.

Hi, Thank you for the video. I am using onedrive excel to link with PowerBI and Powerapps. In the Powerapps when I am following the instructions explained in the video, I am facing an issue when trying to link the Gallery with the editform. In the Editform when I select in Items "Gallery1.Selected", the command is giving an error. It is saying Invalid formula. Expected a value compatible with the dataSource. Can you please help in resolving this issue.

@@2013Nicomusic If you are facing same problem with Editform then you need to remove Gallery1 with powerbi integration. Rather make one additional say Gallery2 with powerbi integration and then link that gallery to the filters which are to be used for Gallery1. It worked for me.

Hi, I'm working on a dashboard with 2 sources, a CSV and an online sharepoint list. The list is left joined to the CSV and I'm connecting the list to the power app to upload text to the Sharepoint. It works great when selecting a record on the dashboard as long as there's a match in the list, but for the rest that do not exist yet (and I want to create the new entry in the sharepoint using the power app) it will just say "Getting your data", is there a way to tell it that when there's no match just pass the values selected to the form and let them fill out the extra data to save it? Your help is much appreciated!
