Backpacking and hiking headlamps or head torches need to be versatile. They need to light up distant features, then be able to have a low power to use in the tent. Extra features should include the ability to have a focused spot and be able to flood a wide area.
Additionally they need to be comfortable, light and have a long battery life, quite tall order!
In this video I get help from a professional photographer Jason friend (link to channel below), he really helps to show the differences in the night shots.
On review are:
Petzl Swift RL
Fenix HM65R-T
Silva Trailspeed 4XT
LedLenser H15R Core
and for balance the diminutive
Nitecore NU25

In the desktop review I have also tested to see if they will work with a separate power bank, so in cold weather you could continue to run the headlamp with the power bank in a warm pocket
In the summary I reveal my favorite that will be with me on every night hike, camp and even walking my local woods at night.
Enjoy and let me know what your favorite headlamp is!
I am raising funds to buy an emergency beacon to help keep myself and the youngsters including Scouts I take out safe. Thanks! www.buymeacoffee.com/fellmandave
