Without a legal sleeper berth you can't team drive without having the truck parked for 10 hours. Both drivers will be required to be on on duty and one on driving anytime the truck is moving. The bigger your cab the more comfortable it'll be but it isn't recommended

As long as you're not team driving then that's fine. She'd just be a passenger. She just can't drive is all. I've driven with someone before and yes it's tight but doable. If you run an older truck I'd say get a megacab or a newer Ford for the cab space. Ford had the biggest cab but ram has the megacab. Sadly it only comes in a shortbed

You got the right idea! When I ran my 2001 3-4 wedge I pulled an average of $3.00/ loaded mile operating on $.35/ total mile average without tire blowouts. I ran a 2008 Dodge 3500 2wd drw 6 spd std fully deleted, triple disc valair'd, and Bullydog tuned for gauges only I scored from a divorcing pawnshop owner so I didn't pay for those mods either. I bought the trailer for next to nothing needing bearings, drums, brakes, wiring, tire straps, and ramps. I am always amazed when folk don't maintain there equipment to that level. I did all the work on the trailer, new tires, and purchased it for $4200. I had $20,000 cash vested in the rig and trailer, netted $80,000 off the combo, sold the trailer for $4000 needing tires again, sold the truck for $500 less than I bought it with 40,000 extra miles on it also needing tires. And bought another person's low milage 1st owner preDEF nontow rig for next to nothing again because it needed small things. I will see you in Indiana at the RV's when I get back from Mexico and am tired of making a living for other people again. Don't do like all the Jones do and finance a $60,000 truck and $20,000 trailer. Make $120,000 and have a wore out truck and trailer needing maintenance. Then be pissed you did all that work for free by the time you paid for fuel and maintenance.

Biggest con would be the limitation on your earnings by the deadhead plus lower rates overall. The biggest pro would be the low initial $$ investment. Another would be the low initial personal investment, the ability to stop if you decide you want to without having to sell (give away) all of the extra equipment (trailer, tarps, straps etc). I guess what it boils down to for me is one seems like buying a job, the other seems more like starting a “real” business. All that from a guy who just started a Hotshot “business” and in moments of frustration wonders if I shouldn’t have just gone to work hauling campers... :-) Love the new videos, stay safe out there.

I would never even try to haul any of those loads ,with a single tire in the rear , if you get a blowout it's hard to keep control and it's probably how that airstream got rollled over I've seen a couple of people get a blowout not having a tandem axle or dually, it's very easy to roll over the vehicle towing and or the 5th wheel trailer . If a fifth wheel starts to roll it's going to take the truck with it and vice versa. I've yet to see if fifth wheel with a single axle though I don't think they make them.

You can get transporter plates depending on the state you are registered in. Some states like Idaho, wyoming, etc require you to buy a temp registration every single trip even if you have a transporter plate. You can buy them at the weigh station in each individual state and they are only good for that one trip.

It's hard to do part time. You either need your own authority and insurance or lease under somebody that'll let you run part time. There's already not much money in rvs doing it full time. There's so much more money in freight but it takes full time commitment unless you're in a good area

Hey Steve I enjoy your videos. You dualled your 2500 to increase your axle load rating. How do you get your loaded truck past a DOT inspection when your cargo capacity sticker in your door is rated far less than a factory dually? I am currently looking into changing my SRW Ram 3500 to a DRW. I am wondering if my insurance would recognize the mod. Or deny a claim if I am in an accident and I am over the factory cargo capacity. Keep on trucking
@CPSteveMiller
3 жыл бұрын
I have had no issues. Dot doesn't look at your sticker for anything other than the gvwr. That's just to determine if you need a cdl. They'll go off the tire ratings. To them it's just a 3500 pickup even though it's a 3/4 ton. I went through 4 scales with a 16k fifth wheel and 9k gvwr truck and each time they weighed me they let me go. Depending on who you talk to though this may be a gray area. I've had no issues in the 3 years of having dually swapped 3/4 ton trucks

You probably answered this question already but to do RV transport. Will I need to get a CDL. Also what about getting a single axle commercial truck with a sleeper doing RV transport or should I just maybe if I get into this just get a old pickup truck. Also the sad part is that some of these RV transporters put year limits on the trucks you can use.

The old pickup truck is cheapest. 4500 and 5500 you'll need a cdl. It's honestly preference. There is no "best" way. I'm happy doing what I do the way I'm doing it. There's plenty of money left on the table though. No cdl is needed as long as your combination weight is under 26,001 pounds.

@@jmjlogisticsllc3203 That's one thing I like is more home time, 1 pick 1 drop. But expenses need to be kept low. There is a lot of dead head. The way I got in with my authority was I met 1 good broker and he kept me busy. Central dispatch is always there but they are the greatest as no loads off load boards really are. On the new trucks I'd do my own maintenance too. When I'd take them in to get fixed the cost was ridiculous. New trucks are good for the first 60k usually.
