Your diagram of series linked batteries is the best way of starting a serious fire 🔥 they are linked positive to negative but not both terminals on two batteries. You have created a short circuit. Series -[]+ -[]+ -[]+ etc always leave two terminals not connected to another battery.

on your connector statements, they should look for any discoloring in the pins as the pins get corroded they add resistance to the circuit, which causes heat & discolors the pins at first & with continued use it may cause the current to get so high that it can & will melt something especially the Motor & & controller connections...

I'd love to see a general consensus on when to charge the batteries on these things. The owners manual says to charge them 12 to 14 hours a night if used daily. The forums say to charge them every chance you get. Some people are adamant that you should let them run down a good bit before charging them. I went by the owner's manual with my first chair and the batteries were still good after 2 years of use. The batteries on my brand new chair need replacement after 5 months using the same technique.

brians48now The one I had from 2012 to 2018 I charged twice a week for those 51/2 years. The batteries 🔋 lasted for the full time. My only exception when I rode it 10 miles a day. I always charged it 8 hours overnight but never every night. I still have that one but I got a new one in 10/18 and I am following the same regimen. I weight 230 lbs and live in the Midwest, Indiana and now Missouri. I don’t have a garage but I am blessed to have a large living room where I can park it overnight and go straight out the door to work.

Never use a different battery for your chair. It will affect the performance. Using a higher amp battery might burn out the controller which regulates the amperage as it distributes it through the chair. For maximum usage, charge the chair overnight (until the indicator on the charger turns from red to green).

@BobWhitehelps

+Elwin Thrush --> you can rewire everything to run on 12 volts if you want, but then must hook it to 1, 12 volt battery only problem will be that heavy light use will drain that battery first, causing the over all voltage (24v or 56v) to drop faster.. if you had room you could parallel a small 12volt motorcycle battery with the battery you use for the lights, but I'd definitely at least use all LED lights to minimize current flow & battery drain..

The way to make your batteries last longer is to keep them used regularly. But don't charge them everytime you use it. For example, if your scooter is capable of doing 10 miles on a charge, and you use 1 mile for everyday you use it, use it for roughly 8 days, then when the battery starts to get low, put it on overnight charge. This way the majority of the battery is being used and recharged. If you only use a small amount of the battery cells, and recharge it everytime you use it, the other unused battery cells will eventually die off. So to keep the battery cells healthy, keep them being used regularly. If the scooter is not used regularly, like if it's not used for 6months or more, the cells have a hard time recharging and holding a charge. If you know the scooter won't be used regularly, put a brick under the back wheel, run the battery right down in your house/garage until the charge competely runs out. Then simple charge the battery. Do this once a month and you'll help the battery stay healthy longer

@Robin James, thank you for responding to my question. Your answer agrees with my answer but I asked because at the store where I had my batteries replaced I was told charge them Every NIGHT WITHOUT FAIL! I do not believe my batteries would have lasted 5 years if I had been charging them that regularly. I probably use 10-15% of my battery power every day at work and now that I am in Kansas City, I do not go out the way I did in the small town in KY or Indiana where I used to live. I am just not comfortable riding around this town. I usually charge my batteries twice a week. I just needed to hear what others had to say about the subject.
@Sciencedgofood

econhelpneeded not a problem. Shops that sell batteries want you to charge them all the time because it'll shorten the life of the battery meaning every 2 or 3 years you'll need to buy more batteries. I've been selling mobility scooters for 20 years and the longest a customer of mine had a set of batteries was 9 and a half years. He told me the key is to let them run down to a degree, then charge it. If you charge it once or twice a week you are helping the batteries stay healthy longer :-)

Hi! I have a 4 years 48 volts (4 batteries of acid / lead of 12 volts each, I don't know the amperage) Gio electric scooter. My batteries full charged (53 to 56 volts: 3 full blocks on the screen), I can only make 14 kilometres instead of the usual 50 to 70 kilometres. It's like there's almost no current left. However, the voltage of my batteries is 46 volts (two blocks on the screen) and the lights, the turn signals, the horn and the screen light work. Is it a batteries problem or other electrical / electronic issue? How do I find the problem myself? I have a multi-meter.
