This is very cool stuff. I'm not having any trouble getting info for the logged-on user. I’m working on what I thought would be a simple app: Employees nominate colleagues for awards. The person doing the nominating must fill out a Word template that gets attached to a SharePoint list. The only thing I want the nominator to do is select the name of the nominee from a People column and attach the Word file. I have a simple PowerApp that works fine. Then I want PowerApps (or Flow?) to: 1. Find and update the nominator’s department in the SharePoint list. The nominator is the currently logged-in user. 2. Find and update the nominee’s department and manager in the SharePoint list. The nominee is chosen from a SharePoint People column that's in the PowerApp form. 3. Send email to various people, including the nominee’s manager. Teach me, oh wise one.

Really enjoyed the videos Shane and have just finished the first 24. I am wondering if you have any suggestions for the following problem: I have a SharePoint list of a couple of hundred users, including a People Picker column and several which I update using a Flow to extract information from the Office 365 user profile - which I guess I don't need if I use the Office365User connector from PowerApps. Now from within PowerApps I open the list in a data table which is then filtered and which I would like to be able to export. Ideally I would be able to hit a button and Excel would be launched with the contents of the filtered data table displayed in a new worksheet. If this can't easily be achieved then an export of the table contents to a CSV would be great. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :-)

Hi Shane, I was able to create a collection from the filtered data table and then create an HTML file with a header, collection data and footer from separate text fields, which I was able to send via mail (perhaps a new video suggestion :-) ), however I then decided to try and create a CSV file using the same method of concatenating text fields. I have the field created but don't seem to be able to send using: Office365.SendEmail(User().Email, "Subject", "Body",{Attachments:Table({Name:"name.csv", ContentBytes:TextField.Text, '@odata.type':""})}) I get the blue triangle next to the button and a message that the ".. parameter 'Attachment content' cannot be null.." Is it possible to send anything other than images and videos (I only seem to see these examples anywhere on the web)? Thanks again :-)

Great video - thanks again. Question: How does PowerApps handle security and access to data? Meaning, do I have to grant access rights to my source data (Excel, SharePoint, SQL Database)? Or can there be an abstraction layer between the users you share the App with and the data sources their have to use? I notice that when using On-premise Data Gateway and Connection, the user don't need to have access to the source SQL database.
@ShanesCows
6 жыл бұрын
It depends. :) For SharePoint and OneDrive (Excel) yes, they need to have access to the data source. For Azure SQL they don't have to have access to the Data Source but they do have to agree to the connection when starting the app. I would say Microsoft knows it isn't perfect but not sure what the long-term vision for it is.

Then with this other code: If(Office365Users.UserProfileV2(varUserEmail).department = Dropdown3.Selected, "Yeay", "Buh") I get the following error: "Warning: expecting a true of false value". But this code alone gets the Department with no problem: Office365Users.UserProfileV2(User().Email).department Could you please share your thoughts on what is wrong with me? Thanks

Hi Shane, probably you are my only hope I'm having a canvas app working with dataverse tables. In the app i hav a simple Gallery to search and select between peopl from the "Contact" table, and everything is fine, only the Photo pushes back a strange error: Although i've implemented an error handling in case of no profile photo uploaded, and it works because it shows a dummy photo : "nophoto", it writes me back that the parameter is not good or no resource found...etc the short line on the photo is the following If(Office365Users.UserPhotoMetadata(ThisItem.Email).HasPhoto=true ,Office365Users.UserPhotoV2(ThisItem.Email) ,nophoto) do you have any idea, suggestion? I'm getting crazy thx in advance!!!!!

Can we see the entire table where User.Fullname() is working? Where is it stored?
@ShanesCows
Жыл бұрын
You would need to add the Office 365 Users connector to your app. That will then expose all of the information stored about your user's account.

One of my customers has a list of all of the email addresses who have access then they check that list of the user email address is in the list. That is my first idea?

Shane Young OK. Only issue I see is that if a company is used to using security groups and adding users to those then we are now having them add users to a list to so they have access to something security trimmed.
