Another great video from Bill & Mike. I will NEVER understand why people don't use OEM parts when servicing their Ford trucks. PM is the single most important thing you can do to get the most out of your Ford Powerstroke so why would you cut corners or use substandard parts?

I can speak from experience on this. The shop i worked at is pretty busy and the nearest NAPA was only about a mile away, but the nearest Ford dealer was over 10, and we didn't have the time to run all over the place just for vehicle parts.

Maybe so but Mikey is kinda quiet natured and Bill needs to prompt him at times. Personally I like the combo of the two and the humor is better with both of them in the video. Mikey is a good sideman for Bill.

We actually ran into that in an 08 truck nobody could figure out why it wouldn’t run and whenever you did get it to run after it would sit for a while it wouldn’t start finally found somebody who knew those trucks and that’s what he said had the wrong oil filter on it and we’re all pretty good mechanics we had no clue that that was even a thing that’s a good video man

I run into this CONSTANTLY on the 6.4’s and 6.0’s that come into the shop. I always replace them with a Dorman OE style oil filter cap and a Motorcraft oil filter. I also use a yellow paint pen and write “MOTORCRAFT FILTERS ONLY” on the cap. Customers are pissed when their oil change costs $45 more then it does when they put their crappy wix filters in there and I always tell them that they will be very happy to spend the $40 now instead of spending the $8000 later to pull the cab and put a new engine in their truck.

The great 7.3 and now 6.7 keep the classic spin on filter. If you’re going to run a 6.0 or 6.4 just stick with Motorcraft everything and ensure you have the correct cap. Some people like the Wix/Napa/Pro-Tec one piece cap+filter but there’s videos of those coming apart online so I can’t recommend that.

Glad to see this content. Good job on the video! Just another instance of aftermarket parts used incorrectly that result in unintended consequences of making 6.0 engines look bad. 6.0 is the best engine out there for light trucks once the initial engineering mistakes are corrected. No exhaust fluid , no DPF. Bill's tried and tested solution at PowerStrokeSpecialty is the most resilient on the market.

The frustrating part is that if you bought a 6.0 assuming that your oil filter cap is an OEM and it’s not. As a consumer you’re thinking you’re doing the right thing by purchasing an OEM filter and causing issues not operating as it was designed by FORD engineers.

You know what... I had a 6.0 for a long time and it was basically all stock I just kept up on it. Put a lot of work into to get everything fixed and restored. I had this weird long start issue sometimes and we could never figure it out. Everything was perfect... I am wondering if I had an aftermarket cap on it all those years and was just using the OEM filter and never knew this. I wish I could go back and look now haha damn it my OCD wants to know!

I can spot an aftermarket 7.3 fuel filter cap a mile away. I’m critical about OEM filters for reasons like this. A have an 02 7.3 f250 my mom bought new , I did nearly all the maintenance on it until I started trucking in 2011 , my mom ended up taking it to her “trusted “ mechanic where they changed the fuel filter with an aftermarket filter and cap . I didn’t know it till I went to change it with an OEM I bought, that’s when I found out I had to go buy a Ford filter cap ( cost as much as the filter ) I was pissed .

Hi Bill: I don't think I have ever seen you talk about oil. I have a 2017 6.7 Power stroke. Normally I have been putting in full synthetic oil 5w40. I am really wondering if I should just use non synthetic oil, like Motorcraft 15W40. Ford shows both oils for 2011-2021. Since you have been working on Ford SD's for years, do you ask what customers have been using and what you have found over the years as the SD expert? I would be curious to know. Synthetic is twice as much, so am I just throwing my money away paying the extra $$$

My number 1 improvement to my 6.0s is Increasing my IDEL SPEED by 100+ rpms and adding a mechanical oil gauge. Prior to, id come off an exit ramp and watch my oil press drop into the teens or lower 😳 now it never gets below 20psi no matter the heat. : FYI I use a SCT programmer to adjust my idle speed and i also run a mechanical fuel gauge 👊

Spin on filters (from the bottom) should be required by law. It is the best way hands down. Look at the 7.3 filter (fl-1995) which you can still get for under $10. Why make stuff more complicated/expensive?
