I am one of the elders who can't dance jingle, but I am working on improving my walking so I can make it at least one time round the dancing circle in honor of my departed son

After reading your comment my heart was heavy for the loss of a native brother, your son. I have to know, we’re you able to walk and slowly join the dancing circle? I’m sorry for the passing of your son. I’m registered First Nations, MiqMaq, we may be of different bands and tribes, but we are of the same earth. Love to you,♥️

When I opened my Google browser to do a search there was a "Google Doodle" with the title "Celebrating the Jingle Dress Dance."When I looked up "Jingle Dress Dance," Google led me to this video. I'm originally from Louisiana and grew up in a small South Louisiana town where Coushatta (part of the Muskogean Tribes of Native American People) Indians. Anyway, a good friend of mine's Father, whom I used to go to school with collected the arrowheads of the Coushatta's that were all along the lakefront of Lake Arthur. Unfortunately, by the time I grew up 99% of the tribe had moved away, so I wasn't exposed to the cultural influences, but there was one Coushatta Elder, we called Chief Eddy, who was very well respected in our community and lived on the lakefront. I appreciated the video.

I never realized how high-impact-aerobic this dance is. SOOOOO much respect for those who compete in blazing heat, in full regalia, all summer long. This opportunity to break it all down and do it in the privacy of my own living room has got me pooped. Oh well. Worth it for the opportunity to share these traditions, learn something, get fit, AND look less of a sore thumb at a pow wow.

I am of the white nation, and if you had been dancing when I was a kid, I'd have joined you. Once I was in a High School marching band, and I saw a very young drummer brother playing in front of his home. He was using a skateboard and a umbrella to play. The next day I told him I saw him. And he started to cry. I told him "Oh no, you don't cry. And you be ashamed about being who you are. And if anyone tries to shames you, come get me." The tale is, if you feel shame from others, then take a moment to take shame away from another person. It will make you honorable and feel shameless. Now I am an Argentine Tango dancer. And it all start with one step. Hoping you are toe-tap expert today !!!

I'd like to ask a question, or rather two, if I may: When choosing your gorgeous, colouful powwow dresses / clothes, what is your main focus? Do you 'just' go by personal taste, when it comes to the colours you chose? Do sustainability and eco-friendliness / tradition play a role in the choice of the fabrics you're using?
@alexandrahenderson4368
4 жыл бұрын
The colours are personal. Women's traditional should be animal hide but most other dances use whatever fabric the person wants.

Hi! I'm a PE and Social Studies teacher at a center for immigrant girls from Central America. Most of my girls are Indigenous themselves and I'm Asian Indian American. We've been learning a little bit about the Native cultures in the Midwest -- especially the origin of the Jingle Dance and it's connection to the present day pandemic with the Jingle Art Project. I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to use your fitness videos in PE class? I also want to show them that they can stay connected to their own Indigenous roots while living here in the US.
