Color also has to be free of Para-toulene-diamine sulfate (TDS) , it's used in place of ppd and can cause allergic reaction as well.

It’s soooo nice to find you! I too suffer from a henna and ppd allergy. I’ve been dying my hair for yearsss and have experienced just about every reaction you can think of! I’ve even had eyebrow tint done twice that had me looking like will smith on hitched 😂😂 I’m great at the healing and reversal process but it’s ugly, dangerous and it sucks lol anywho I can’t wait to try that product because I want my color back and I’m tired of scaling skin, swollen lymph nodes, face, inflammation.... they say “beauty is pain” 🤷🏽♀️

Thank you so much! I developed severe allergy to hair color! I have dark brown hair. I will try that hair color. I have been freaking out since my hair is gray. I have to work and I have been suffering with this allergic reaction. It affects my face , neck and hands. There also is not much info on dyes that work.

I just colored my hair this week with L’Oréal excellence Creme high lift blonde, have used it for several years, no problem, but this time had welts all over neck, chest, stomach etc. Guess washing out in shower spread it ... so now have to try something else next time:( Thanks for info!!!

I would be interested in hearing about others and what they have tried for dark brown hair. I read it is harder to find products for it. I have just started this journey of finding an allergy free product That works and lasts. You mentioned in Europe they are not allowed to use ppd in hair color. I am trying the Demi Goldwell product today but I know I will probably have my allergic reaction. My next try will be the ION but if that doesn’t work, I have no other recourse. How about Aveyda?? Anyone?

Oof, I’m sorry for such a delay in responsiveness as I know that this video is a little dated, but I have a concern. I’ve been dying my hair for a long time now, and my first color was cherry red. I’ve used ion color brilliance before, as well as other dyes from sally, and I’ve never had an adverse reaction. Heck, even getting my hair bleached at the salon was okay. But I’ve been wanting to dye my hair black for a while, and I don’t want to keep dying my hair other colors anymore. for some reason I decided to try a dye from Walgreens and I immediately got an allergic reaction and had to go to the ER. Reading up on it, apparently dark browns and blacks have the worst amount of PPD. I still love having black hair, and I noticed that ion color brilliance has a black color, and I was wondering if you thought that it’s possible to get the same reaction from it? I know it seems silly to wonder, esp if it says PPD free (I’m hoping their black color is too), but still I’m nervous >

Most colors that claim to be OK turn out not to be, sadly. I have a beautiful light blonde and then a few weeks ago, my neck broke out from just a small amount. I am heartbroken, having little in my life to make me happy just now and the color really lifted my spirits. Very sad.

been trying to find solutions to my hair problem. i believe i have an allergy to hair dye now, as ive been dying my hair since i was 12 and all of a sudden after 4 black box hair dyes, the sides on my scalp have become unbearably itchy, especially when i wash my hair. once my scalp calms down, im definitely giving ION a try.

I wonder if they have dark brown PPD free hair dye. I’m noticing my scalp feeling more and more uncomfortable using dark browns. I can’t leave it on for the recommended time. So most of my gray can not get covered. I like henna/indigo but it is a pain in the but. I’m going to check it out. Thank you

PPD (Paraphenylenediamine) IS the agent that deposits the color on the hair. That is why the industry has been so slow to replace it. It's the core of the permanent hair color product. It also doesn't contain "para-toluenediamine sulfate" (PTDS) which has been the substitute for PPD used in recent years. PTDS results in skin irritation that is almost as bad as PPD in about 50% of cases. *****ION Color Brilliance seems to contain neither but looking at the ingredients label I wasn't able to identify what they use as a substitute. It seems that most agents that deposit color have the capacity to trigger some very nasty reactions in the human body. "p-Phenylenediamine" Is a so-called intermediate that reacts inside the hair fiber to produce the appropriate color when oxidized. This combination (with "p-Aminophenol" in this example) turns dark brown. Other chemicals (or different proportions of these) can make any shade - from Sandy Blond to Jet Black. They all have the potential to trigger irritation and inform us as to why we have to do patch tests exactly as directed by the manufacturer on any client before an application.

I've used Dark and Lovely hair color since the 1980s, then all of a sudden I break out in a severe, painful RASH using the DNL hair dye about 3 years ago.😒😡 They are putting the PPD in their products now. I am petrified of coloring my hair now! I do not trust any hair color.

I'm getting a patch test at the dermatologist for topical allergies tomorrow, so hopefully in a week there will be better guidance for options. I just hope there are options.

@beckyfrombama I still got an allergic reaction but it was nearly as severe as it has been in the past. It was enough though to make me just hang up my hair dying days. I’m truly sad because I have a fade and wanted to do a lot of color experimenting with my hair that I’ve never done before. I guess I’m only going to be able to use color hair wax. Thank you so much for this video though. It was worth the shot.
