Just have to say, I first saw Richard when I was about 10 years old, when PBS showed his yoga video. I'm 53 now, still love the way Richard teaches and since getting to watch Mary in action I'm convinced she's a goddess. Love you both for all that you do and your slightly absurd humor. ;)

Thank you for all of this--I recently realized that I "over-give" to others-especially getting entangled in relationships w/ a partner who needs a lot of work-as they become a "project" where I put my energy as a way to escape attention on me or focusing on my own issues! I've really been asking myself--"why do you do these things?" and therefore connecting things. YOGA is a lifesaving humbling experience for every time I practice! anyway there are many layers to each person... thank you for sharing perceptions. I gotta get back to reading PATANJALI.

9/11 😮 This was so interesting. While life whirls around, yoga can seem constant, a nice alternative to chaos. However I never thought of the dull burnout phases or other expressions of samskaras to mean we are escaping. It makes so much sense! What are we not facing? What does it stem from? How can we change? These awareness’s happen through daily practice over time. But recognition of our escape would help us to grow and change more quickly! :)

This is such an important message! Students come to me sometimes, thankful because yoga allows them to cope or breath through difficult situations now. And that is nice to hear, but they use yoga as an escape. Yoga allows them to accept things they should actually deal with or change instead of just breathing through them. And I have to keep reminding myself of this message too. Thank you!

Before I had the “escape” of yoga my escapes were much less healthy.

I have been rebooted by some of the shorter session given in caring ways and incorporating yin now. Also in video we can stop or the moves are explained and broken down. I don't have to keep up or go twice a week because it is too expensive. Being kind to myself and concentrating now on my neck and shoulders instead of the legs and no props.

Perhaps it goes without saying, but the mother who came to yoga to escape her kids might be there less as an actual escape than many of the bliss ninnies coming for a taste of personal enlightenment… (For a she’s doing her dharma of motherhood, and has made a wise choice to nourish and replenish herself so she can go back and continue doing it well 🧘🏻♀️) Another beautiful and thoughtful talk - thank you both so much 🙏🏼
