Ya I agree. He can do whatever he wants. No hate from my end. I also see this is your video. So props that you got to take lessons from Aaron. So, aside from mentioning his technique, these haters are not mentioning why its bad. It's detrimental to you body. Most of these kids he teaches (very similar style to Blink182) will end up with terrible athrits or other bone/muscle/back issues. Thats the reason it's bad. I respect the guy 100 percent. I have learned a lot from his drumming over the years and have been a fan. But personally, I had to give this style up and switch my technique. I now play similar beats/rhythm but just lighter with more wrist than arm. Plus, the drum head/cymbal companies love when you beat your drums up faster. It makes them more money! Travis Barker was complimented many times by famous drummers. He mentioned it in his autobiography. But they also warned him about his hard hitting and the issues it will lead to.
@Spladoinkal

Charlestown 14 you can totally play hard but you have to keep your grip loose and relaxed and play with the moeller technique. you don't start hitting that hard, it comes naturally with relaxed practice.
@softlk8810
7 жыл бұрын
I agree. I have seen Jim Chapin's video utilizing the moeller technique. However, many drummers, including Aaron & Barker, don't seem to utilize it. I have utilized it with my band recently, and I find that although its better for my body, the volume is fairly reduced.

Completely agree with you man. It took me probably upwards of six years to realize that a lot of my natural style was influenced by 3 Doors Down, simply because I listened to a lot of them when I was first learning to play. I didn't realize I was influenced because I was looking for an influence, I realized it because I was listening to a song and most of the beat and fills (etc.) were almost exactly what I would have done. Influence isn't chosen, it just happens.

I really want to clear some stuff up. It really is as simple as this guys. There are so many different things to take into account. Aaron obviously doesn't care much for technique in the way of finer points, but that works great for him. Yes he is doing amazing things all around the world, and that is because people don't give a shit about ur technique on stage. These days it is how you look when you drum and the style and flair you bring. People that are saying the technique is horrible, you are wrong. There is no technique. That is literally just hitting pads at a hard dynamic with no regards to dynamics or technique.. but hey man! That works for Aaron and he is getting himself places, so it just depends on how you look at it. He obviously isn't going to be the most technically sophisticated drummer and anyone looking for proper technique lessons need to start looking in the right places, but that's not what he is aiming for. For what he does, what he is doing is perfect. If you want to be the next Dave Weckl, this video is obviously not a good place to start and if you want to learn technique, it's redundant looking at these videos, go somewhere else with the whole technique thing. The fact is, what he does works for Aaron. Sure, as a general rule, it is usually not good to hit this hard with a tense technique. It will end up hurting you later, but again I digress, because to each his own, and Aaron seems to found his own thing that works for him! Rant over motherfuckers. Side note - did anyone notice that he said thirty second notes when you guys went on to play 16ths? Gona be seeing him soon with Paramore in a few days, so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the table since Ilan. Anyway, keep practising at different dynamics and experiment with different techniques and you will find ur own style (if thats what you are going for of course ;) ). Sorry to go on but i thought i'd clear some shit up. Peace!

As a musician for himself, that's fine, but if he's gonna take the responsibility of a child's musical growth and joint health by teaching, then he has every obligation to know what techniques to use to avoid damage, and to know the terminology at the very minimum. Taking lessons from him would inevitably cost this child's parents a great deal of money and wouldn't pass him in the most rudimentary drum exam. Unacceptable.

every comment is about how many hate comments there are, yet I have only found one, and it was more of a back-handed compliment. Shut the fuck up about the "haters," I don't see any of them anywhere. But just to say something... This DOES show solid technique, just not the traditional technical fundamentals of music theory that we're all taught in music school. In the end though, it's not about who has the most technical foundation, it's about who has the most entertaining chops. He has a cool style, he's obviously not restricted to 4x4 as a lot of popular drummers are, and that alone is a huge leg up on 95% of "drummers" in general. Period. He's not a session musician, he's a member of a band, right? He doesn't NEED traditional fundamentals, he has his own style.

I think everyone should have their own style of playing, no matter howmuch inflence I may take from Aaron Gillespie or any drummer, I still think its cool to just put together all different kinds of influence and make your own way of playing which would be YOUR technique. I'll play the way I play naturally and if someone tells me im playing 'wrong or 'incorrectly' then thats their problem.
