Thank you so much Alexa for this great lesson! Practice makes perfect! Learning how to conjugate French verbs in the future tense is important to speak French fluently. Your explanations are clear and easy to understand. Thanks again for your hard work there.

Hi Alexa. I have a question about MERCI D'AVOIR APPELÉ/CONFIRMÉ, etc. This is, best to my knowledge, equivalent to English THANK YOU FOR HAVING CALLED/CONFIRMED.. Present perfect continuous. Now, my question is why the AVOIR stays in infinitive? It's a very bizarre construction and I can't find a grammar rule about it. One, like in NE PAS FUMER or NE PAS PLONGER, which is very clear why the verb stays in infinitive. But, AVOIR we always conjugate with past participle. Very strange. Sorry for leaving a comment on here, but I didn't know where else. Thank you in advance.

It is infinitive because you don't talk directly to the person when you say "Thank you for accepting my invitation" you don't say "Thank you, you, who accept my invitation". And you use the preposition "DE" in that case you can't conjugate the verb. The construction of your sentence with a preposition in that context can't be used with a conjugation just like the translation "Thank you FOR COMING".

Hi! I hear future ending for 1st person je as open e (è). So je parlerai sounds like je parlerè to me. Am I correct? If so, how do you tell future from conditional? ( parlerai vs parlerais)

You are hearing correctly, but you would hear differently if you came to Montreal or Bruxelles. In Quebec, "je parlerai" sounds like "je parleré" ; there is a clear distinction between "ais" and "ai". There are a few others, such as "pâte" and "patte" : in France, both will sound like "patte". Same with "fête" and "faite". I just came across this article that touches on the topic : "Particularités phonétiques et phonologiques du français parlé en Europe et au Québec" www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-UQYBEQUE. Linguists will point out that Quebecers use more vowels than the French. More info here : "A few differences between French spoken in Québec and France | British Council" www.britishcouncil.org/voices-magazine/few-differences-between-french-spoken-quebec-and-france Au plaisir! P.S. If you do come to Montreal and have learned French french, check out Solange's videos before coming : QUÉBÉCOIS POUR LES NULS | solangeteparle - KZitem kzitem.info/news/bejne/0o-jnmd-boaAgII

@hakuna matata, @cooljp Thank you. So in French de France both parlerai and parlerais would sound the same? (parlerè )?
@hakunamatata1828
4 жыл бұрын
@@poe12 yes in France it definitely sounds the same ...at least in the north...maybe other regional accents could have their specificity like it's explained about the Quebecois.
