I understand Latin is very different than Greek and that there are good reasons why "lucifer" is used as a name/title for " anyone really powerful" such as the Son of Man and Helel (Satan). Are there any catholics around here that can help explain why the one name "Lucifer" has been used as a proper name, an honorary title and a metaphor for Christ as well as the Devil? Most evangelicals use the term "Lucifer" to refer to Helel or Satan in his unfallen state. After God finds iniquity in him he is referred to as Satan ( "the accuser" ) or the Devil. The first person to get the title of Lucifer ( Son of the Morning/Bright Morning Star/Shining One ) is Satan in the hebrew scriptures ( Helel is hebrew for "shining one" ). Why would we choose to apply the same title to both Satan and Christ? It just seems unnecessary to translate it the same when we could have used different terms. It seems to me that it is very convenient for the occultists and the new age movement as well as many others that there is a lack of clarity on this issue. You need an advanced understanding of language and history to explain why Jesus and Satan are given the same honorific title in the Latin Vulgate. That seems to work against the church of Christ by making it hard to define our terms and draw distinctions between what is true and what is false. For example many christians believe this Easter Proclamation is openly venerating Helel: The Prince of the Power of the Air otherwise known by many as Lucifer the Son of the Morning as Lord and the God of this world. I am not going to go so far as to say that however it seems to me that there is good reason for people to be suspicious of this type of language since we know that there are false Christs and False Prophets everywhere these days. Any info on the subject would be appreciated- I'm looking for the popular or common catholic opinion on it as well as any supporting data. God Bless!

you are correct about the term is first as it is first used but that does't help us understand how and why that term became titles for both Christ and Satan. The reference to the King to Babylon is appropriate because it is an allegory fore Satan's fall. If Latin never existed then neither would the title Lucifer. Lucifer: Venus The Morning Star Lucifer: Satan- unfallen state of glory Helel: God's name for Lucifer before he sinned which mean "shining one" Satan: Accuser * the only proper term for this being at this time- when anything other Satan is used it will not imply the true nature of the being it's self. The Devil is a liar and trafficker of falsehoods and half truths wich is why his name is :"Accuser: Juts to be fair- the mentioning of the Babylonian king being laid low is also very well studied and referenced allegory used to drscribe Satan. The future state of Helel ( the only archangel to turn his back on God) is to deceive the nations and bring us low before our saviour returns for us with grat power and glory.

***** I understand your argument however the issue goes beyond the Vulgate. A choice was made to use the same word to describe both "Lucifer Son of The Morning (devil) and Lucifer the Bright and Shining Morning Star (jesus)

May this flame be found still burning by the Morning Star: the one Morning Star who never sets, Christ your Son, who, coming back from death's domain, has shed his peaceful light on humanity, and lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Are you suggesting that the term "morning star" is referring to The Father in this passage? Thanks for your info.
