I'm sorry to spoil it for you, but all you bought were tourist trinkets. The sweet pastry is originally from Hungary (or maybe Slovakia or Romania, interpretations vary) and is called trdelnik. It has flooded Prague like pirate stalls with gummy bears or fake cannabis. Even the tourist industry at the lowest level is subject to fashion trends. Matryoshka is originally Russian. This type of souvenir is a left over from the wild entrepreneurial 1990s, when post-communist trash like ushanka, Soviet military badges, etc. were sold to tourists.
