Hey 90210FireBuff, KingofMetal1961 here, I am a first-time watcher of your video. Thank you for the written description I really appreciate that. Excellent coverage of the fire. I am about half-way through the video when I notice all the Units you have listed. I am not a fire-fighter because if I was I would know the Initials of all the units you have listed. How about a bit of a breakdown of all the units that showed up. It really would be helpful to the uneducated who watch your videos. Again excellent video and I am looking forward to checking out more of your videos. Stay safe and God Bless all the real heroes, Firefighters, and Police our First Responders.

So tell me , they are fighting a defensive fire for hours yet they all stand there with a BA set on their backs, Why ?
@hosedragger-204

Because all that smoke is full of carcinogens and toxic gases. The #1 killer of firefighters is cancer. Staying on air when in the smoke, even on the exterior, is one of many ways we are trying to prevent that.

@@hosedragger-204 Are you being serious ? The vast majority are carrying the bloody things around but not using them. I just spent the last 25 in the service and i am dumbfounded about how much time you guys over there just walk around with packs on their backs but dont use them.

@@andyoxleyonhistravels oh, my apologies. I wasn't paying attention to each and every person, I was more taking in the broader picture. I'm just a rookie (3 months now on a paid-on-call volunteer FD) but for me personally, if I'm anywhere close to it or in the smoke then I'm going to be on air 9 times out of 10. I have sports induced asthma, so I don't take chances when it comes to smoke and products of combustion. Just in case, I keep one of my "emergency" inhalers and inhaler chambers on top of my turnout gear rack, and bring it in the rig on calls When I get geared up, I grab it along with my helmet off the top of my gear rack and head to the rig. I'll usually leave it in the rig where it'll be easy to find, and where it won't get damaged or anything. I haven't had an asthma attack in years, but I still carry it just in case because it can sometimes be triggered if I've got a bad chest cold, or if it's a bad allergy season and my allergies start acting up really bad. Again, sorry for the misunderstanding. Hope you have a nice day

@@hosedragger-204 I have just retired and the best bit of advice i can give you is whenever you think you need to put that facemask on then do it. There are too many people on here who think it is cool to eat smoke and look brave. Its not, they give you the scba to protect you respiratory system, so if anybody tells you that you are soft or a coward because you dont want to breathe in some shitty toxic smoke then ignore them and wear. Trust me at the end of your career you will be the one in far better health. Enjoy your career and stay safe.

@@hosedragger-204 I’d rather size up the scene without my mask on. It is SOP. So everyone is different. I maked up on the rig once when I was a probie. Not anymore. I mask when I need it. I can mask with gloves on in 20 seconds
