The guy in the background complaining how it took so long for the engine to show up and then starts asking if it’s their first time, needs a lesson on how the 911 system works. Contrary to popular belief, a fire engine doesn’t just miraculously spawn in front of your very eyes when you call 911. First the call goes to a dispatch center, sometimes two. While the dispatchers get the information, they simultaneously “ring down” the fire stations that will be responding. It takes the firefighters approximately 2 minutes to get their gear on. Then it takes another 5-10 mins for the fire engine to respond without hitting and killing any pedestrians or motorists on the way to the fire. Usually takes another 1 to 3 minutes to deploy and charge the first hose line with water. So please don’t be like the guy in the background harassing the firefighters.

They should be preparing while enroute to the fire. You don't wait to get a structure fire and start putting on the gear. This is not science, but time saves lives and properties. Minutes counts and from what I see in the video. Far too many captains walking around trying to give an update. Cops don't prepare when enroute. They arrive ready. Fireman should also arrive ready instead of hopping off the engine and putting on there gear. I would also be frustrated if i see them arrive unready

If you come upon an emergency (crash, fire, etc.): #1 - move your vehicle out of the flow of traffic - you don’t want to become part of the emergency. #2 - call 9-1-1 - don’t assume someone has already done that. #3 - if safe to do so, render aid. Don’t forget, you don’t want to become part of the emergency. #4 - Once the 9-1-1 call has made, and emergency responders dispatched, especially to a controlled access highway, it will may take 10 minutes, or more, for them to get to the scene. #5 - Drive safely!

To all of the hecklers on scene, as well as in these reply's... Suit up. Learn the business. Then see if you complain. Most of you wont make it through training. The rest of you wont make it past your probie period. Basically, gear up, or shut up.

I get both sides of the heckler. It’s an emotional thing to see your neighbors house burn down and another house on fire. The fire station is (generously) 5 blocks away. That said, the reality is the fire department got there quickly and got to work quickly. That was an explosive fire not a smoldering small fire. Sorry to hear someone died but it could have been worse.

That's normal, Monrovia only has two engines, a truck, and a paramedic squad. Arcadia regularly responds being on their westside and LaCoFD from Duarte being on their eastside.
