Very good design and informative video, definitely printing this out and thanks for all the tips on getting it precise

This was the first thing I bought off of cults3d, I have it printing right now. I'm not sure if I will use it to measure or as a fidget toy!

Nice. However, is there a reason you measure the cylinder holding it upright!? I would've measured in a 90 degree angle. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for comment. Yes, there is a reason. In the caliper who I printed, the jaws are not 'perfectly' flat as it is in metal calipers (who are be grinding), so in this case, it would be better when contact area of jaws and measuring item would be as large as posible. Morever I also think that measuring item should be measured with a little as posible jaws overhang, becasue it is only plastic so as you know it can band :) In this way, measuring the cylinder holding it upright we can get a more accurate results (when measuring printed caliper). That's my opinion. In the metal caliper, maybe you are right, item should be measured with not holding it upright. It's probably my habit because I worked as a milling machine operator and milling cutters are measured like this.

So it says the holes need to be tight around the screws but this cause everything to spin with the screws and either locks up after a few spins. Do the holes need to be bogger?
@alberto1P

The holes in all wheels obligatory must be loosen, but in the sleeve they must be tight. See this section: kzitem.info/news/bejne/qaaBvGtnhKGonZw Regards Albert

The linear sprocket kind of gave me hell printing: 1. I had bed adhesion issues 2.An issue where the needle could not pass through and required sanding to fit 3. I never could get it done well enough that the sleeve could freely slide through it My recommendation would be to make the sleeve fit a little less snugly and make the needle thinner.
@alberto1P
2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmyneutron8702 1. There are many ways to improve bed adhesion, for ex. use glue, brim etc. 2. The problem is in the 'pointer', do I understand correctly? 3. Did you tried print loose part from attached files? The prepared files are for a well calibrated printer and I cannot increase the slack any further. If anyone has a problem with the caliper working properly the first solution is to check the parts in the 'loose parts' folder. If this does not help you should make the outer walls smaller e.g. by scaling the part or reducing the flow rate (instead of 100% use 90% for example). I have written about this many times.

You can work out one by yourself if you change the number of teeth of the wheels.

You fiddle with the gears until it reaches the desired measurement. Thats a big nono.
@alberto1P
Жыл бұрын
Of course, you may think this way, but I can assure you that this is not the case. I press down on the wheels with the same level of force each time as when zeroing the caliper. Unfortunately, objects made of plastic are not very rigid and are prone to bending. Therefore, in order for the measurement to be correct (I will repeat myself here) it is required that the wheels are pressed down with the same force as when setting 0 (this should be a small force).
@AlexanderZapataIndividual

@@alberto1P This is to ignore the backlash of the gears right? As the play creates a range of error, but if the gears are strained in one direction and locked. Then they give a proper and repeatable value. I think Is not so much bending as the space between Teeth.
@alberto1P

@@AlexanderZapataIndividual Exactly, just as you write. You can see how to the backlash correction at the beginning of the video below: kzitem.info/news/bejne/l22w0qN4jWp0fKw
