Hi Coby. Former U.S. Navy special operations support team member here. I worked with Navy SEALs, Riverines, Beachmasters, and often with other branches' spec ops teams in the Middle East during the 2000s. You asked how Billy was able to determine six or eight men solely by footprints. By examining the ground, the tracker can identify and count six distinct sets of footprints. Each person has a unique walking pattern, foot size, and weight distribution, which slightly alters their footprints. A skilled tracker can distinguish these subtle differences to count the exact number of individuals.Military teams often move in specific formations and exhibit disciplined movement. The tracker might notice that the footprints are spaced in a way that suggests tactical movement, such as spreading out to maintain stealth or moving in a coordinated manner.

The key piece of information that's slowly revealed is that the Predator is a trophy hunter, who only goes after the most dangerous game (which on Earth, is humans, specifically armed humans), and while he is a hunter/predator, he also abides by a code of honor, as many hunters do. He doesn't kill the unarmed/those who aren't a danger to him - only those who are armed and are potentially dangerous. And like many hunters, he keeps trophies of his kills. Predator 2 reveals a bit more of this, but this is an important foundation to the lore.

My family had a condo on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mx. when "Predator" (1987) came out. I learned that the firefight with the guerillas was shot at "El Eden" restaurant in the jungle down the coast about 45 min. drive by Jeep. You drive S. via a highway to Mismaloya, Mx. & then turn E. on a dirt road into the jungle. My G.F. & I went down to P.V. for a wk. vacation around 1990. At the time the movie was shot & when we visited, El Eden only served from like 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. as they had no electricity. All the cooking & cleaning was done via wood fires & ovens. In the movie, you see railings in some shots along walkways. A small river runs along side of the restaurant with a waterfall. Above the falls, the current has worn the river bed down to smooth solid rock. Customers can swim & play in the river. The current is swift & if you scoot out into the current it will shoot you off of the water fall & into a large pool below. There was no facilities other than the restaurant so we had to walk into the jungle to change into our swimsuits. Just think of stripping down to change in the same jungle where the Predator was watching from the trees. Thank God my G.F. was beautiful as I completely forgot about the Predator. We went off of the falls in tandem with her sitting between my legs. After a swim in the jungle pool we ate dinner & headed back to P.V. I looked up El Eden on line & they have made it all touristy with Predator memorabilia. Just 1 of many memories in my old age.

To answer your questions near the end: The Predator didn’t kill Dutch immediately because he earned the Predator’s respect. That’s also why he dumped his ranged weapons and fought Dutch hand-to-hand. And yes, the Predator noticed the trap. I like how he takes a few seconds to examine it, almost as if he admired it (before going around and falling into the backup trap).

My #1 Favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movie from my childhood! Originally Jean Claude Van Damme was hired to play the PREDATOR but quit the project as he was tired of wearing the suit, which looked like a lizard/insect hybrid, as he complained the suit was too hot. 7'2" Kevin Peter Hall, 1955-1991, was hired to play the Predator as he was more of intimidating opponent for Dutch and his men. Sonny Landham 1941-2017, who played Billy, was given a bodyguard not to protect him from people, but to protect people from him as he was prone to violent outbursts. Landham even said in an interview that ,"We weren't making a movie, it was a survival story for all of us." Half the cast and crew got food poisoning, except for Schwarzenegger and Director John McTiernan, as they ate Spaghetti-O's and PBJ sandwiches. Schwarzenegger would hire his own personal chef to give the actors the food they needed. No hot meals were allowed onset due to the 109 degree heat, as the actors ate protein bars. The scene where the stuntman falls ofd the cliff and lands in the water blew out his kneecap. It rained for 2 weeks, which made filming even more difficult. Oscar Winning VFX artist Stan Winston, 1946-2008, was brought in to make the new PREDATOR suit for the movie, in order to make the creature more realism and make it more scarier in the final cut. Winston would return to the franchise for PREDATOR 2 in 1990. The film was a box office and critical success, making $100 million dollars ($264 million dollars today) against an $18 million dollar budget. It was nominated for Best Visual Effects, but lost to InnerSpace.

I knew the Predator was challenging him out of some sort of respect or honor. I knew once the facemask came off, it was a handicap for the Predator. I remember just getting it. The most guy movie ever made. A human hunter will usually gut the animal they kill. It makes it easier to move, and you don't want the guts regardless. Aliens raise their status in their culture through the hunt. The tougher the prey one manages to bring down, the tougher and smarter the hunter is deemed to be. That means they spend most of their time traveling the galaxy looking for the toughest, meanest things they can and hunting them. For them the Earth is like a hunting preserve.

Also the scene where he picks up arnold he's inspecting the capabilities of his body and knows he has no weapons, so using weapons or his face armor wouldn't make it a worthy kill

Grey wolves are capable of seeing in infrared. Sarge says to the recruit - I didn't see you at camo practice yesterday, soldier! Soldier answers - Thank-you Sir. The weapon it used is a plasma caster. It fires bolts of plasma which are VERY hot. I don't know if anyone has said it, but the reason it took off the hardware is that it found Dutch such a good challenge, it would give him a fighting chance by fighting hand to hand. In their own way they had a sort of honour.

Please react to "Prey" from a couple of years back. On a personal note, I'm glad you were able to fight off that vicious little beast that kept jumping into your lap!

Besides Terminator, another movie in which Arnold was ginormous is Conan the Barbarian. Great reaction as always, Coby.

Billy, (Sonny Landham) is in 48 Hours with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte. He supposedly had to have a bodyguard on this movie because he was a hot head who loved getting into fights. So the guard was there to protect the other actors and crew. The black guy you like (Bill Duke) is in Commando. Predator 2 is actually pretty good despite what some may say. It’s set in the urban jungle.

Bill Duke alsa directed Sister Act 2, a movie about music, joy, and lying to authority figures. Definitely recommended.

Fun facts time...Jean Claude Van Damme was originally in the Predator suit, but he hated it,complained and quit because he wasn't going to get a film credit and there are behind the scenes pics of him and at that time,he wore glasses.Sonny Landham(Billy)had a bodyguard and the bodyguard was to protect other people from him, because he had a temper and would get into bar fights.Arnold had his food flown in,because he didn't trust the local foods for sanitary reasons,2 Vietnam vets... Richard Chaves(Poncho) and Jesse Ventura. That Sgt Rock comicbook Shane Black was reading,he was trying to get a movie made with Arnold but,it just didnt work out. Now,one very big thing that I always mention was actor Kevin Peter Hall...He was the actor in the Predator suit and he died of AIDS.Now,he contracted HIV/AIDS because he had a blood transfusion after he was in a car accident and at that time, blood wasnt tested for HIV/AIDS and his death should always be mentioned.

It was filmed in Mexico. The production company had to hire extra bodyguards to accompany Billy (Sonny Landham) because he was very short tempered, and love to fight. No one was safe around him. Predator 2 was set in Los Angeles
