Professor Tsuyoshi Ichimura's research team at the University of Tokyo is using Fugaku to predict earthquake damage on an unprecedented scale. The team's extraordinary model, which solves 1.2 trillion mathematical problems from 20 trillion data points, has been able to visualize not only the seismic waves rippling through Japan's Kanto region, but also the conditions at specific locations in the buildings with ultra-high resolution.
