Thanks for the information. I have been taking prednisone for 33 years. Thankfully, I haven’t developed dementia nor memory problems, but yes, depression and weigh is one of my big problems. I look like a beer barrel standing on two broomsticks. I don take meds for depression because I manage it with hobbies and good company. My rheumatologist believes I have osteopenia, but I sometimes think it is more prednisone induced arthritis.

When you say long term, how long is long term as in weeks, months, years? Also my doctor prescribed me Prednisone 20mg per pill and I take it twice a day every 12 hours my question is that too much 40mg total within 24 hours? Btw thank you for your videos they truly help🙂

For males in the 30-50 age range, too much prednisone can cause retina burn and holes, and possible temporary blindness.

It's best to discuss this with his doctor to know how long he needs to stay in prednisone and the appropriate dose for his condition.

How prevalent are these side affects when you are on various doses of Prednisone? I can attest that I have been on Prednisone starting last March taking 40 mg/day and have reduced to currently taking 15 mg/every other day and I experienced almost all the side affects regardless of the change in dose. Do they ever subside while on Prednisone or do you need to be off the med before you see side affects end?

Some side effects are worse at higher doses, while some are there no matter what. For example, the mood side effects worsen the higher the dose. Also, the moon face is worse at higher doses. There's some evidence that below 7.5 mg, many side effects go away, such as risk for heart disease. Here's an article you'd appreciate: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16107513/

How long do the side effects last when you get off of long term prednisone use. Do the side effects get better as you taper?
@PrednisonePharmacist

Yes, they usually get better as you taper. To better answer your questions, I'm going to publish a video called "how long do side effects last" in a few weeks!

After a year of tapering from 60 mg( for 2 months), I am currently on 7.5 mg & getting fatter , plus still have bad , black moods . But, the worst is fatigue ! How much longer until adrenals kick in ?!

The prednisone effects on our bone matrix....can they be reversed?
@PrednisonePharmacist
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Helen, it's hard to reverse. Technically it is irreversible. However, there are some amazing prescription drugs that can help build it back up. The best strategy is always prevention, and calcium + D is what the doctors recommend. You can also find all the nutrients you need depleted by prednisone restored with Nutranize Zone at nutranize.com
