📝 Ordained a priest at the age of 23, “Padre Soler” was an avid composer of Catholic liturgical music. Soler is most celebrated for his 150 one-movement keyboard sonatas including this Prelude in C Minor. These sonatas were written for instruction of the Infante Don Gabriel, son of King Carlos III of Spain and Maria Amalia of Saxony.
Soler is considered one of the most important Spanish harpsichord composers. He was a product of Domenico Scarlatti, an Italian composer born in the Kingdom of Naples which belonged to the Spanish Crown. Born in the same year as Bach, he was a Baroque composer whose music was influential in the development of the Classical style.
