TRANSCRIPT:
In medicine, we wear white coats, because we are here to help people. And that means you need to engage in dialogue and actually support patients and meet them where they are.
So some providers think that, “Well if I prescribe PrEP, then I am going to make my patient more promiscuous.”
And so, I usually will say, so patient comes in and their cholesterol is through the roof…Do you say, “I'm not gonna give you a statin to treat your cholesterol, and I'm not gonna give you a blood pressure medication.”
No, you do just the opposite.
Sexual health is no different. Just because someone hasn't made the sexual choices that you would prefer they make, doesn't mean that you withhold something that could protect them from becoming infected with HIV.
