I am following IP method of preparation and standardization. Here instead of Potassium dichromate, potassium bromate is being used. How to calculate the Factor? The method as per Indian Pharmacopoeia is as follows: "Dissolve 0.200g of potassium bromate, weighed accurately, in sufficient water to produce 250.0 ml. To 50.0 ml of this solution add 2 gm of potassium iodide and 3 ml of 2(M) hydrochloric acid and titrate with 0.1(M) Sodium Thiosulphate solution {Test} using starch solution, added towards the end of the titration, as indicator until the blue color is discharged. 1ml of 0.1(M) sodium Thiosulphate is equivalent to 0.002784g KBrO3." Please help.

No factor is needed. Just follow your last sentence for the calculation (1ml sodium thiosulfate=0.002784g KBrO3.)

Free fatty acid defination.
@MicroChemsExperiments
3 жыл бұрын
Free fatty acids (FFA) are produced by the hydrolysis of oils and fats. Since FFA are less stable than neutral oil, they are more prone to oxidation and to turning rancid. Thus, FFA is a key feature linked with the quality and commercial value of oils and fats.

I have one doubt , if the standards used are expired, what is the probability to get the endpoint??? Still we can get the results???
@MicroChemsExperiments
3 жыл бұрын
The potency or purity of a chemical decreases with the increased number of expiry date. Ofcourse it's better to use a chemical withing it's shelf-life. But normally we have seen that: using a chemical, which was expired 1 year past, does not affect significantly in the test result though it varies with the type of test. You can use a expired chemicals after standardization but not in sensitive tests those are done using HPLC, GC, AAS etc. And reference standards should not be used after the expiry date. I think your got my point.

In last Calculation what is 20.394 M1V1=M2V2 Is used so What is Molarity you used in flask Of potassium dichromate.?? How mucht is v2?
@MicroChemsExperiments
3 жыл бұрын
This video is made based on AOAC method. So the calculation and the factor-20.394 are given by AOAC, hence no explanation is available to us. We used 0.169g potassium dichromate to dissolve in 25ml water, as said in AOAC. Molarity of potassium dichromate is not concern here. So calculate the molarity by yourself by using the molecular weight, if you need to know. Thank you

It's the chemical reactions Stoichiometry: (294.185 g/mol K2CR2O7)*(1 mol K2CR2O7/3mol I2)* (1 mol I2/ 2 mol Na2S2O3)= 49.032 or 0.049032 in AOAC (denominator) or 20.394 if it is in numerator ( 1 mol K2CR2O7/ 294.185 g) to calculate the M of K2CR2O7 just divide it with the total volume of solution prepared

20.394 is the factor of the equation. In case of sodium thiosulfate, normality and molarity is same. 1M sodium thiosulfate= 1N sodium thiosulfate. So same procedure should be followed to prepare 0.1N solution.
