I like some of the meals intended for camping, where you just add hot water. When I lived in a place with frequent power outages, they were really handy to have. They're meant for backpackers and camping so they actually taste pretty good, since the manufacturers know the food is likely to get eaten instead of betting stored long term for some future catastrophe. (Mountain House is one of the most popular brands, but there are others.) Short term, the freeze dried items are great, but I wouldn't rely on them for 20 or 30 years. We tried to cycle through our freeze dried camping items in about 3 years or so (most had use by dates much longer).

Canned salmon can be mixed up as is to make salmon patties, the bones are soft and mash easily (calcium), the skin is free of scales and contains Omega 3. I add dried onions, parsley, sesame seeds, finely diced celery and/or red bell pepper, 1 egg per can, cracker crumbs and a little evaporated milk. My cats get the broth from the can. The AC200MAX can also power my fridge and furnace if the power goes out. I love it when my preps can be used in my daily life - those preps are the most useful. Put the macaroni in a pot cover with water (about 1/2" of water over the top of the macaroni), then add your butter and milk and cook on the stove like that. I haven’t had any issues with my purchases as I had researched them and pretty much rec’d what I expected. I should test out some of the long term storage food but I am hesitant becuase they are for emergencies. The other issue is that let’s say I don’t like one particular or even two of the choices I purchased - that doesn’t mean they are all going to have the same issue - and plus, I can use them for barter. Even Berkey - I know there has been an issue, but my water tastes so much better with the black filters. I used one set for over five years - I could not get them to fail the red dye test.

I suppose I regret that the backpacks I purchased to become bug out bags were camouflage. Knowing what I know now I probably would have purchased something a little more basic in appearance. Camouflage might be great when actually in the wilderness, but it's getting to the wilderness when they can really stand out.

Smaller solar power packs for camping. Bought a total of 10 and 8 quit after being rained on. Not soaked or submerged. Just rained on. How can you advertise being used in an emergency, when they are ruined by a sprinkle?

I bought that Vesta heater and was very disappointed! I had it in a room on my porch that is well insulated and connected to the house through a door that was open. I ran the fuel out and the temp rose about 2 degrees. I have bought other means to heat a small space and all them leave a lot to be desired! I could put them all in one room but then there wouldn't be any walking space.

In many cases, anyone that has cooking experience knows that Canned Salmon requires a bit of hand processing to prepare for cooking. Canned Tuna is another matter. One can eat it right out of the can. Goes great with crackers.

Hand crank emergency radio receivers!! They are all JUNK! I've tried several and they are basically cheap toys. I would never depend on one in a survival setting. I wouldn't mind paying more If I could find one built better. I ended up buying the CountyComm GP-7 receiver. It doesn't have a hand crank, but it is very small (portable), stingy on power (so I can easily recharge it from my solar generator), and (most importantly) it receives EVERYTHING (including single side band transmissions). I gain nothing promoting this radio receiver.

@egomaniac8510
Жыл бұрын
@@TheProvidentPrepper I agree however I would argue that a freeze dryer has quickly become the most important tool in a preppers arsenal. You can trade food for other essentials. The cost is enormous however I compared stocking a year's worth of food for just 1 and it is right in the ball park of a LG freeze dryer. I have a warped way of seeing things but to me this is give a man a fish vs teaching how to fish.

I recommend getting a small solar panel around 25watts and a separate battery bank. Use solar to charge battery bank and then charge phones off that. The all in one solar phone charges are not good at all.

Should be okay for many, many years. Since it's freeze dried, it won't go bad. You can put an 02 absorber in it, but you don't have to, really.
