Peppermint is my #1 favorite because it helps eith everything and is great as a salve, tea, oil. It helps with pain, colds, headache , general malaise, ect. I also love mullien, yarrow, beet root, and tumeric.

I make tinctures and used them daily. A favorite herb that comes immediately to mind, though, is mullein. I don't use it as a tincture, but it is wonderful for calming coughs and for helping to heal lung ailments like bronchitis. I make hot tea from this herb. The flavor is quite mild and very drinkable. It combines well with other herbs you may wish to include in your tea formulas.

Sweet gum was used by the American Indians. It has the same ingredients as tamiflu. Mimosa was used to treat sadness by Islanders. It was considered the happy tree. Elderberry is great also. I took it during the Covid stuff.

On herbal medicine books-don’t forget your library! I like to look through books from my library system (I can go online & order from anywhere in a 3 county radius), then if I like them I buy a copy online. I particularly like Thriftbooks to order from-I often find things very inexpensively & their bar for how much you need to order to get free shipping is low.

Thank you, really useful information. Have picked up a few herbal/medicinal books at charity shops (thrift stores?) in UK and at car boot sales (garage sales). Elderberries are just about to go out of season here, and really wanted to make some elderberry syrup (for boosting immune system in cold/flu season. This has given me the confidence to give it a go. Also had a wonderful mullein plant self set in the garden this year, but caterpillars ransacked it before I could collect the flowers. :-(

I learned so much, so thank you for elaborating on the herbal necessities. I've been paying more attention to the herbal and medicinal remedies, as they can be quite costly, and yet very easy to make. It's good to know what herb is for what use, so I collected a few books myself, primarily because I like to be able to identify the plant. P.S. I received my JASE MEDICAL case - on your discount code, so thanks!

Hello, I like what you said in your video about washing the herbs. I too can't fathom not cleaning them before storing and using them for medicine. However, when I clean fresh herbs like mint or basil, they get so limp and it really looks like I've done something wrong. What is the proper way to clean them?. I recently got some lovely fresh oregano and I washed it, laid it out to dry for several days, then hung it upside down, because I wanted to make sure it was completely dry before hanging it upside down as to not grow mold. Was that the correct way to do that? Thank you for this great video, you share a lot of valuable information.
@TheProvidentPrepper

I'm not sure what "correct" actually is. I just do it my way. I like to harvest in the mornings because I think the quality is better. I rinse it and lay it out on a large towel on my kitchen counter until it is mostly dry. I freeze dry some of my herbs and I use an air herb dryer for others and some I actually put in my solar dryer. I've never had any mold when I hang them upside down but I live in Utah and it is pretty dry here. It may be different in moister climates.

Maybe they'll dry where you live but here if you try to dry herbs or dehydrate herbs in the winter here with the 60 to 70 and sometimes 80% humidity that we have no way. No way so I have to use a dehydrator on low setting to be able to preserve any herbs in the winter time or really anytime except for three months in the summer.
