Also, have more than you think you will need. If you are planning for two weeks, make a month instead. The reason for this is, if you have friends or family that are visiting from out of state, and they are staying with you for a few days and there is a disaster of whatever type, you may end up being responsible for feeding some extra mouths. Particularly if road or bridges are impassable, airports are shut down. Always have more than you think you need!

It’s important that people understand that prepping is a life style. It’s a mindset. Keep a list of your preps. I have a list of the preps in my vehicle, bugout bags, as well as bug in resources (food, water, medical, etc.) I also have expiration dates for ALL products that have one. I check it monthly and make purchases as necessary.

Good video guys. My own take on this ... oh back in the 1980s you weren’t called a prepper. You were being prepared just in case something bad happened during the height of the cold war between Russia and the United States and they chose to strike us. Back in the 1970s nobody gave a crap. Back in the 1960s, you were either a hippie or you were being prepared and a responsible American citizen due to situations like the Cuban missile crisis. A lot of people had bunkers built in their backyards or on their property. Back in the 1950s nobody gave a crap. Back in the 1940s you were just trying to survive so being prepared was not only smart but also prudent and necessary. Back in the 1930s everybody was recovering from the great depression and had learned their lesson so that they knew they needed to have extra items on hand just in case. In the 1920s people didn’t have much of anything because of the great depression but they had also learned from World War I that you needed to have things on hand just in case. Only from the 1990s onward did preparing for emergencies become a bad word. Only from the early 2000s were preppers called “doomsday “preppers. This is such a crock. My grandparents taught me to be prepared. My parents taught me to be prepared. The Boy Scouts taught me, and now they teach my son‘s to be prepared. It’s their motto. My sons have been teased at school by some of the other brainless children who think it’s funny that they are in scouts and “be prepared “is the motto. I hate to say it, but those kids and their parents are going to suffer when things get tough. I warned people for years on Facebook and every other platform to start preparing for storms and things like that that could happen. Nobody believed me. They just smiled and went and I’m sure they whispered amongst themselves about how crazy I was and to just go along with it because they really liked my wife. Then when all the storms and various things started happening they started coming back to me sheepishly asking me for tips here in there. Then when Covid hit, I had to watch people whine and complain about how they didn’t have anything and how they couldn’t get to the store, etc... I wasn’t looking so crazy after that. I warned people in November 2019 that something big was coming because I could feel it. I could see all the lines converging. When you’ve been preparing and you’ve been watching things going on long enough like my family has, you start to recognize the signs and the patterns that something is coming. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it is and you don’t always know when it’s going to happen but you know it’s coming. It’s one of the blessings of being a person who believes an emergency preparedness. I am a fifth generation military veteran and my mother has medical training and is a qualified FEMA and CERT local response coordinator for her community. Yeah, we’re all “crazy” preppers . Crazy like a fox -) for the record, I have used some of my preparations to help other people when I came across emergency situations such as car accidents, people with traumatic injuries, or OK in a couple of instances people who just need it food or water because of an illness or medical issue. That’s one of the great things about being prepared. Sometimes you have the opportunity to help other people. It’s not about being selfish. It’s about thinking ahead, having a plan so that when it all falls apart… You don’t fall apart. I would love to say I am completely self-reliant but that would be a lie. I am nowhere near where I want to be but people who know me say that I’m doing great. No man is an island. We need each other. If we share our talents and our resources, we will survive calamities a lot better. It’s no good to be a Lonewolf. We need to be a tribe. Even when I studied history and prehistory The evidence is clear that people survived because they banded together and used their various skills, talents, and resources to help each other.

The door on the Arc was sealed by God. No one else could get in. Had it not been they would have been overtaken. Noah and his family would have not made it. Even though it rained for 40 days and 40 nights, they had to live on that boat for many months until the water receded. So they needed everything that they prepped. My family is the same way about preppers. They think I'm extreme. My son believes in prepping but he's not committed to do it. He can afford it much more than me! I'm buying rice for him and his family and some beans. That's all I can do. I moved in with my daughter so we only have one household to upkeep. I gave up my house and she bought one for us. It's her, me and her 5 kids. I do all the prepping for us. She takes care of our monthly bills. It works for us but we certainly can't help all of our family. I'm really excited about this series. I feel like it will be very helpful, especially new preppers. I'm no seasoned prepper but I have been prepping about 18 months. If I can do it with 7 family members anyone can do it. That is how I started. Our power will be out for 2 weeks after a storm. So I planned for that. I got caught many years ago without the preps I needed. And swore it would never happen again. Also back in the 80's my husband was injured on the job. Back then unemployment money here was next to nothing. If it wasn't for having a garden, my freezer and food stuck back. We wouldn't have made it through that time. He was out of work 2 months. Life- has taught us the value of having those preps. Now our situation is even better. And can now help other family members as well, if necessary. That peace of mind is priceless. Do what you need to do for you and yours. And don't pay attention to naysayers. Old timers always kept a PANTRY root cellar and garden. Hunted and fished. I do need to up our solar situation. But otherwise we are in a good place. I don't prepare for an apocalypse. But do prep for long term shut downs or lockdown, if necessary.

Just to add to your Noah comment... not only did he build an ark because God told him too, but, God ALSO told him to store up food! Prepping is 100% Biblical. Look at Joseph and the 7 years of Plenty and the 7 years of famine. They stored up during the plenty so they’d survive the famine. Even the Temple had storehouses! And there’s a whole other Biblical facet on being wise and heeding warnings.

You can check the top of your can goods for evidence of the can being compromised. If the center of the lid is popped out I would not use it. I opened a can of enchilada sauce a month ago. I made my enchiladas and they were beautiful. When I looked inside the can I could see where the metal on the bottom had turned colors. It wasn't rusted but was well on the way. I tasted the sauce and it tasted like metal. Tomato sauce or anything with tomatoes in it is one I wouldn't use after the sell by best by date. On my sauce....I knew I rotate well and never have expired food. I couldn't believe I missed it. Then I realized my son had given me the sauce and my grandson just stuck it in my kitchen cabinet. It expired in 2019. So I lost all my ingredients in the dish and I had to start over. CHECK DATES! LESSON LEARNED.

For those in apartments. You can purchase large garbage cans. Just make sure they don't have drainage holes in the bottoms or wheels on them. That may have holes in the bottoms of the cans..These can be used for water storage with the lids on top. When you see trouble coming clean them and fill with water. I stack them and use for storing my storm supplies in them. That way everything is together and in one spot. And you can DIY a Berkey filter. For boil water notices. Also fill bathtub and any other large containers. Also purchase at least a 500 watt solar generator. No it won't run large appliances or your coffee pot. Get a campers coffee pot and a campers cooktop with at least 2 burners. And several propane bottles. And rechargeable batteries. Candles put out a lot of heat are good for Winter use. Not for summer and not around children. Because of possible fires. Get some LED lanterns if you have children. And battery operated fans 10 inch. To circulate either cool air or heat. And a crank radio. With a solar and battery use. A solar generator. Will keep phones charged. So kids can watch a video or two during a power outage. This gives parents a little quiet time. To assess their family needs. In a situation. And have a couple small flashlights as well as 2 good strong ones that throw light for quite a distance. Games coloring books and cards. And a Buddy Heater for heat backup in Winter. But the small one that only goes to 9, 000 BTU'S is not enough. Spend the extra and get the Big Buddy heater. It will better heat a room. DO NOT LEAVE UNATTENDED WITH CHILDREN OR PETS AND READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL FOR SAFETY AND OPERATION INFORMATION. Do your research. On all these things to find what is best for you and your family. The more knowledge you have the better. Spare covers will cover windows to keep out cold air. They also now sell heat blankets that will plug into these solar generators. But understand the more you plug into the generator the quicker you deplete the battery. Do your research. Use them sparingly so it will last longer. If you have the solar panels to hook up to it great!!. If you don't you will have to limit its usage. You want one that allows what is called pass through charging. So you can be charging it and using it at the same time. Know your watt usage for what you want to power. Get a KILL A WATT plug in piece it will tell you amps, watts and volts for each appliance you plug into it. To help you determine what you want to power on your solar generator. And for how long you can power an item. And help determine if that power usage is necessary or not.

Hi Don & Robbie, You commented that Berdan primed ammo (the ammo with the two flash holes from the primer) is corrosive. I was under the impression that the newer steel case Russian AK ammo (Tula, Wolf, Red Army, etc...) was Berdan primed and non corrosive. Can you comment further on this? I knew a lot of the older ammo out there is corrosive. I was also told the (US) 45ACP ammo prior to 1953 was corrosive (I do not know if that old stuff is boxer or Berdan primed).

Hello, I have always been interested in prepping but never really understood what, where, how to start. I have been watching a lot of videos and looking at different books and have slowing started to prep. It gets overwhelming when I see everything that I need and don’t have.

I study prepping to just be prepared for those times when the power or utilities quit. I also like to go backpacking, and got called several times for an mountain SAR crew as a boy Scout on a backpacking trek. IMO, you don't really need to hoard supplies, but having some things (a mini stove or emergency radio) may help in an emergency, and knowledge is "the best defense."

I have had this issue with your Tuesday vids...which I love! But I often struggle to hear your off-camera daughter read the questions, and you don't always repeat them. Sometimes, I'm not sure what you are "answering". It would help if she had a mic or if you'd repeat the question... Thanks!

As a new prepper/survivalist, I really like your channel thus far, and I’ll definitely keep watching it. My experience so far at readying myself is probably very different to most. Sure, I’ve been seeing some warning signs, but overall I don’t think it’s anything we as people can’t handle. What truly got me into prepping is, unfortunately, a very rapidly declining situation with an alcoholic father. I realized some time ago that I may very well have to resort to bugging out to ensure my safety. I also have a few unique challenges that could set me back in a survival situation. The most prominent by far is that I’m completely unable to smell. I always have been. Does anyone know if this would be that big of a disadvantage, and if so, are there any tips and tricks I can do to work around this?

we have a good amt of food and water, but in my gut I know that I need a gun repair parts, and I need to buy freeze dried meat and vegetables. I have some of both of those things, but not enough. I wish now I had taken the Glock armorers course several years ago.

What if you have to choose between buying food or buying extra ammo? We live on the line of city and county (in city limits, unfortunately) so, it’s not like I can just go hunting for food. So…..it’ll probably be food storage for now because of all the shortages coming. We already have enough freedom seeds for a pinch.

Only Glock nothing for sig ?

Sigs are great guns, but an informal survey of my shooting friends and of strangers I meet at the range bore out my assumption that most people at least in my area shoot glocks, and guess what, we can all share those magazines if we need to. That's why it's the best prepper handgun -- in my area and in the surrounding states at least.

Bay Leaves are supposed to kill weevil and their larvae. What you do is put your flour or cornmeal etc or beans. Put in the freezer and freezer for 4 days. Then take it out. That is supposed to kill what is already in those grains and beans. Then let thaw well place in well cleaned food grade buckets with bay leaves layered in. HOMESTEAD HEART. has some great videos on this. Do the research. Go watch the videos and read the comments. A lot of info in the comments as well.

Id like to add this as constructive criticism, Your answer was 5 min to " whats a prepper and why we prep. the rest of the show was the usual questions. ( and thats good, ) but I hope we can narrow the answers down to the question asked. Build more on reasons, methods, Opsec, bug in or out, vehical prep etc.... ( all of which i know you've covered before in other shows. ) Shooter.

@@nmr6988 I can buy a gun and ammo, I just have to get a document notarized with my father (which is a day off work we can't afford), otherwise I just gotta be 21, so I am waiting and saving so when I am of age I just apply for the gun license. I have a lot of .40 caliber blowdart ammo. Just in case you offer the blowdart gun solution to others, larger caliber is better, and the longer it is the better range.

@@breathofdifferentair1950 , thank you so very much for that great information on the blow dart gun. I don't know anything about them but it sounds like a terrific option. And I'm glad you're saving up for ammo, because without that a gun is just a doorstop. I applaud your clear thinking. I'm glad you and your dad are working together on this. If possible, you need a handgun and a rifle.

Any other foods you choose to dehydrate, freeze dry, other grains that you may grind later for your own baking/cooking uses. Salt, Sugar (no O2 absorber when packaging sugar). Put the Mylar bags in a 2 gallon or 5 gallon bucket prior to filling and sealing.
