This is our first episode of Prep Sports America and is an extension of Prep Sports Night Live which is produced during football season. This show provides a brief preview of the CIF-SS Playoffs. We also stopped by Santa Fe and Western High Schools and interviewed coaches and players about their upcoming playoff games. Santa Fe High's ascension is a great story. With only one victory over a three year period and only 60 players in the entire program, the once mighty Chiefs were a mere shell of the once storied and dominate program. In one year a new head coach and former player has turned the program around in unbelievable fashion. Ryan Bateman of Santa Fe has done what it took Dan Davidson of Western three years to do. Davidson followed a path similar to Bateman, taking a perennial cellar dwelle r to not only a CIF Title, but to a State Playoff final and producing a quarterback who led the Nation in passing. These two coaches took the hard road to success. Davidson's leadership goes well beyond the football field and it's easy to see why his teams succeed. Bateman in one season is a leading candidate for Coach of the Year. He's done the unthinkable and he takes no credit. We wish both teams good luck. And a big shout out to Coach Davidson and Bateman for their outstanding leadership and more importantly, their mentorship. These two programs are in great hands.
