Thank you for this update on one of the earliest Preservation Hall bands. Sadly George Lewis had passed but Willie Humphrey was a worthy successor. I feel privileged to have been able to enjoy them live for many years. They will stay in my memory forever.

I saw Mr. Jaffee's son Ben Jaffee perform at Wolf Trap with the Preservation Hall band just last night. It was a great performance and he shared some of his memories of coming to Wolf Trap as a very young child. He would have been three at the concert in the video. And the venue provided a proper Steinway grand piano this time. Cheers!

Seeing Jim Robinson carrying on here suggests that he must have had to curb his urge to dance a lot in Preservation Hall.

That was great ! especially if you compare with the rubbishy band that carries over the name (and nothing else !) today . Thank you so much for sharing

What was the reason the organizers could not provide a decent piano ? i hope in 1974 they were no longer afraid that jazz musicians would destroy the instrument ?

That’s the typa piano New Orleans musicians request- Barrelhouse style open-top uprights like in the bars & brothel foyers in Storyville. Gives it the authentic feel of a New Orleans party!🤙🎉

I have seen them perform at other venues over the years. This is the type of piano they use.

Someone tag Joe Rogan in this so Joey Diaz can prove to him that he really was in a jazz band

James' solo (14:30) is absolutely riveting...Josiah's drumming is the perfect accompaniment. His playing is steady and 'quiet' in the background, where anything louder would overshadow James' singing and anything quieter would hardly be noticed. Such beautiful, heart-felt music - just piano, voice and drums.

This was in New Orleans as I was there and saw myself and my Dad in the videos so it was not where you said it was and it was in 1985 and I recall the blonde kid dancing in the video but know this was in New Orleans and it was in 1985 ! Dad took me and Mom and I grew up on his music ! I loved love this same band I saw in person met them too ! I was 29 back then and he was in bhis late 60s in 1985 !

Patti, With all due respect, this was not 1985. Jim Robinson, trombone, passed in May 1976.
