The way they played "The Star Spangled Banner" caugt my attention and apparently President Obama's attention as well. Him going out of his way to greet the band members is moment which each of those young men will remember for the rest of their lives. Because on the other side of the story, which I happen to know, those band members are mostly young cubans drafted into the army and sent at random to different units, those who happen to know an instrument can get lucky and get sent to the Honor Guard. Some of them come from rural areas, kids who miss their moms and will probably queue at their barracks' phone booths this evening calling their moms and abuelas telling them that they got honored by president Obama. Their families will be proud of the kids that practised their scales without electricity and writing notes on re-used music sheets. Those kids will be full of hope.

get real.. this is a military band unit for one of the most brutal dictatorships in the world. they're ordered by Castro thugs to learn the anthem and they play it. whatever there dictator requests he gets or you'll be tossed in a dungeon.. that's the real story.. don't make it romantic or more than it is. it's political protocol. Raul the dictator wants American money but with a catch. He wants to remain in power. and Obama granted this wish. of course he'll order that they play the American anthem.. he's closed on one of the best deals a dictatorship can get. money and power..

Obama: Visits Cuba first time in 88 years for President Trump: Makes history by stepping on North Korean land.
@olivergrumitt8033
4 жыл бұрын
Barack Obama did absolutely the right thing to visit Cuba and to normalize relations after so many years of hostility between the 2 nations. Apart from the Cuban Missile Crisis 58 years ago, Cuba has never been a threat to America and has never attacked America. Yes, the human rights record in Cuba is not good but the US has been happy to have normal links with countries and be friends with those countries whose record on human rights is no only as bad, but in many cases, worse than Cuba’s. As I mentioned, Cuba has never attacked America, but it was Mostly hijackers coming from Saudi Arabia, a great friend of the US, who were responsible for history’s worst terrorist attack on 11th September 2001. If the US had not treated Cuba as a virtual colony, having Cuban leaders like Batista who served the interests of America rather than Cubans themselves, then the Cuban Revolution may not have happened and the tensions and hostilities between the 2 countries may not have happened either and there would have been no Cuban Missile Crisis which through good fortune indeed did not lead to a nuclear war which would have killed us all. Or certainly a huge majority of us.

This is my view as an outsider. America is a great country not because of its military hardware, but because it understands the "art of war". A skillful General must know when to fight, when to scare away and when to retreat. Of course, above all, how to choose his battles. To many Anglo American oligarchs, America faces a tough future where its domination over the world seems pretty unlikely. Remember the rise of the New Super Power, China, and Russia's modern-times geopolitical and territorial ambitions. These two remarkable issues seriously impact America's security as a global power, and at one point in the future will have to be met with military force if necessary. This point brings me to the subject I want to share with fellow viewers, America can not go to war with Russia or China with a hostile communist Cuba next door. Just like in the Bay of Pigs, the students of history will agree with me, a hostile Cuba would be a direct threat to the USA in the event of such a risky war. So, I think those in US government know exactly what they are doing. They are just planning ahead... but for now we continue to observe where things might be headed.
