“Narito po kami upang personal na makita ang naging epekto ng matinding init na dala ng El Niño sa ating mga magsasaka at mangingisda, at upang madinig ang inyong mga hinaing at mungkahi kung papano natin malalagpasan ang pagsubok na ito,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remarked as he led the distribution of various assistance to farmers, fisherfolk and families affected by El Niño during a ceremony at the Datu Abdullah Sangki (DAS) Sports Complex in Maguindanao del Sur on May 23, 2024.
In his message, the President mentioned that due to the devastating effects of the El Niño phenomenon, the Provincial Government declared Maguindanao del Sur under a state of calamity, enabling the local government to effectively respond to the situation and provide relief efforts to the affected areas.
As part of the Administration's ongoing initiatives to mitigate the adverse effects of El Niño, President Marcos Jr. underscored that the Department of Agriculture (DA) is continuously monitoring the National Irrigation Administration’s (NIA) recently inaugurated Malitubog-Maridagao Irrigation Project Stage II (MMIP II) to provide sustainable service to more than 9,000 hectares of agricultural lands in Cotabato and Maguindanao.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently developing plans to construct the Ambal-Simuay Flood Control Project in Cotabato.
President Marcos Jr. emphasized the government’s efforts to enhance the development of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), highlighting the upgrade of the Provincial Access Road in Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Datu Hoffer Ampatuan and Rajah Buayan, which aims to improve transportation and foster strong commerce in Maguindanao del Sur.
He likewise reaffirmed the Administration's commitment to intensify its efforts in addressing the security concerns facing Maguindanao Province.
With the aim of providing swift and comprehensive support to facilitate rapid recovery from challenges and prevent the re-occurrence of chaos in the Region, the Chief Executive urged all concerned agencies and local government units (LGUs) to ensure that various forms of assistance, including financial aid and technical support, are extended to those who are truly in need.
