funny thing is, the magician didn't have that bad an answer. an issue a lot of students face is poor nourishment. so actually providing a free breakfast/lunch to students _would_ go a long way in improving education outcomes. and regarding longer school years, i think there is a conversation to be had about maybe not having the super long summer break. if i'm not mistaken, the original purpose of it was so children could help out on the family farm when harvest season was close. students tend to forget shit during a long summer break so much of the beginning of each year is wasted reviewing what was learned the previous term. perhaps getting rid of the long summer break and having shorter breaks spread throughout the term would be better.
