That sentence surely means Rafa stops playing singles just before reaching the GS record and becomes a full time doubles player (jk) His english is much better and being around other english speaking players much more helps him with useful english expressions, phrasal verbs etc. Rafa became full time professional at 15 (no time to properly learn basic english grammatic structure which is very different to spanish) and his tennis team has no english native speaker which made him difficult to learn a language from another family language "tree" (not the romances) As for instance, he's more confident speaking french or italian (even if he knows less vocabulary on those two)

This is a really cool and fun tournament. ❤️👍 As long as they keep this as more of a ‘fun’ yet serious competition- it’ll keep its magic and only grow in popularity quickly- imo. It’s a catch 22 since this is tough for them to give their all, without a potential sacrifice that just isn’t worth the risk for them, individually speaking. And I can see McEnroes point, w/pulling Rafa- despite the fact it’s an injury, I think maybe they ought to draw up a secondary schedule in situations as these, so whichever side, then doesn’t feel cheated. That kinda sucks that they didn’t get to chose another player too...it really does make a difference. And..something tells me that Borg didn’t have a true say in lining up the players...no way, with Rafa AND Roger there. The guy barely was able to get in a word when each came in for a quick break, where they’d get bombarded by the other.. I never saw Borg even bother🤣 Can’t wait til next year!

It was a two fold question. First part was about his injury, wether it was serious enough or not, and wether he'd played through it in another competition or champioship that wasn't this one (suggesting implicitly that this Cup isn't that important). Second one was which competition thinks he's more important, this one (Sponsored and organized by Roger Federer, a personal friend of his) or the new format Davis Cup (sponsored and organized by spanish football player Gerard Piqué). In fact that last one was quite poisonous in the way it was formulated because it was more a "would you prefer playing in your friend's tournament, or in a spanish guy's tournament"... with the added extra that Gerard Pique is a highly controversial figure in the spanish media for a lot of reasons (very vocal FC Barcelona player, lots of controversies about his published opinions about Real Madrid, etc), and that of course in the Davis Cup Nadal'd be representing Spain in a competition that, change of format or not, still is labelled "Davis cup", not a "team europe" in a very new tournament created a few years ago, that still doesn't give any ATP points, and that some pundits insist in labelling as little more than an "exhibition" format. he answered the 2nd one first (it's clear Rafa's no fool and he clearly saw the reporter was trying to get some juicy stuff for his news report). He essentially stated that every time he's been called by any team for a competition, he's always answered the call and been there, as long as his body and physical shape have allowed him to do so, and that the Davis Cup won't be any different. He then said that his personal team and himself would analyze the situation when it's time to do so, and take a decision about the Davis Cup based on only that particular reason - wether it'd be good for him and his objectives to play the Davis Cup or not, regardless of who organizes it. As for the first question, he straight up answered that the only reason he didn't play is because he couldn't. That he was fully committed to the team in this cup and that he was really excited to play with Roger again in the doubles match - but that he just couldn't, so he didn't, that it'd been no different in any other competition, that yesterday he already did an effort to play and that today he couldn't ,so he let someone else in the team to take his spot.

Compare this press conference to team world's, swearing, childish mocking, drinking while the question was asked not even paying attention, i mean those idiots need to understand that journalism is what will help promote a competition like this, roger, rafa and novak won't be around in ten years and it's certainly not shapovalov who is gonna bring crowds.

@@natka9876Chugging beer while simultaniously ignoring an ongoing question and swearing and mockig a person doing his job however badly you think he is doing it isn't the opposite of uptight it's just disrespectfull, being yourself while being a brat is no better than alledgedly putting on a show for the press like novak does according to nick because at the end tennis players players are public figures and many ppl are inspired by the good and bad, it's not a weakness of character to recognise a flaw in one's self and try to change it instead of sticking to it because you're so real and proud of being real albeit real prick. I didn't single out shapovalov in regards to the behaviour but rather as one of the 2/3 young players in that team who has yet to prove anything that may create public recongition and attraction to a new event that needs promoting and support from the young guys and handling press helps you do that.

@Elias Mikealson Tennis press conferences can be very dull, repetitive and too PC. Contrary to your statement, Nick who was chugging the beer and mocked the Italian reporter’s question as the most stupid question he’s ever heard, puts bums in the seats. If you ever watch a press conference for an MMA fight there’s a lot of trash talking and that draws huge crowds. I’m not arguing whether it’s good or bad. I agree that the younger guys need to step up their game. Handling press - I don’t know, I’ve watched a lot of post match interviews where I had to shake my head at how stupid and repetitive the questions were. Some folks are loving it when Nick blatantly tells reporters his mind.

@@natka9876 Yes press is very repetitive and journalist are often dull, predictable, asking "stupid" questions if you will and ppl are drawn to the unconventionnal and laugh at it but there is a fine line between genuinity and being deliberatly and purposefully rude, the latter may attract more views on social media but will never have the impact of the amount of respect ppl have for players like rafa/roger/novak/andy/stan/del potro... and in the long haul that aura is what will benefit tennis both from the viewer's point of view and from the young upcoming player's.

They're supportive to try and get him to win for the team. But of course he's overrated. He's a best of 3 set player who's dangerous in any 3 set competition but not good enough to challenge in the slams.

@@RS-hh3etThey've both supported him to win a GS for the next gen when he came out a couple of years ago, especially rafa and objectively you can see why, game wise he doesn't have a lot of flaws quality serve/return/backhand aggressive, good work rate, and mentally i think he's got the right amount of confidence. Coming back to the slams point, he's 22 still, rog won his first at 21 and was under achieving enormously untill 2002 same with novak, not every one can win a slam at 19 and acheive a career grand slam at 23 like rafa so you have to adjust your standards and look at it from a wider and realistic perspective.

Actually Roger is the one who has taken Sasha under his wing so to speak since he was a young age and started having success. Sasha also just signed with Roger’s management team hence Roger is now invested in him professionally as well. And yes, Sasha may or may not improve in Slams but for now he has performed below expectations in GS’s and he didn’t have a great season this far. That’s why ppl criticize him. He’s also arrogant at times.

@@eliasmikealson4476 First of all you've your "ages all wrong". And secondly of course they're going to say nice things when pressed about him 100 times in different interviews..When asked if he could challenge for grand slams they're not going to say "no" are they . And what they say about him being a great player is true..he is dangerous to anyone in best of 3. It's just he doesn't have what it takes in the best of 5 format...He's still dangerous but he's also capable of being beaten by huge numbers of players. If he manages to scrape through a few rounds he's picked off easily in the 3rd 4th round maybe quarters.

@@RS-hh3et Ok rog was 22 not 21 and rafa 24 not 23 sue me lol, i don't disagree with you in regards to zverev's achievements because there is nothing to disagree about those are facts but to say he is overrated is a bit much because another fact is he is still 22(i checked).I don't see anyone under 25 being consistent in slams recently, no one at any age really apart from the obvious 3/4/5 players, that's why i talked about adjusting the standards as we are used to a level of consistency throught the last 15 years that's not normal but because of how long it lasted, has somewhat shifted the bar of normality for the public opinion.
