I am lawyer and my mama and brothers against of my law studies .. Even they torture me for getting further studies ...they broke my laptop an cut my law books and until I got in depression and anxiety attacks and moved with my aunt with my 3 dresses and law books ... After that they blame on my character and never want me to do practice in the court ... Yes few people consider it fictional but because I born as a girl . live in a household where men are dominate and girls are slave who obey them so it happens and i am from Karachi Pakistan ... So if your parents are forcing you for studies you are bless ...at least nobody beating you because you wanna go to college and see libraries ..........fun fact is that I gave L.L.B exams without attend the class or see the books or teachers .. My close friends submit my fee .... Life is so hard for everybody

Can we just take a second to appreciate how his moms ACTUALLY open to understanding that their generational trauma might've been passed down to us in a way they didn't even realise? this title I totally believe she has always been so hard on Wajeeh and wants him to live the life she wants not what he wants..The other son is stronger and went and did his own thing..who knows what is going on with the daughter ..I hope Wajeeh gets strong and lives the life that makes him happy.. She thinks she owns her kids but she doesn't..Plus she doesn't listen and thinks she is right but she is not..Never pressure your kids and let them be who they are you need to be there either way..I actually feel bad for Wajeeh..I am glad he opened up and told his mother..I hope she knows she did wrong..He says your not going to get near my kids with education..that tells it all how he feels...

Love the podcast broo! I was listening on Spotify and got to the doctor part.Tbh I don’t blame her for thinking that because that’s how they grew up. With that being said, NO, you do not have to be a good person to be a doctor. I know plenty of horrible doctors but the community brushes aside the way they treat their spouses because of the title. This narrative has to change because there’s plenty of people who aren’t doctors who are wonderful people but they get passed up because of a lack of MD or DO….

I would love a chai talk on parents introducing the topic of Islam to their kids. What to do and what not to do. I think there have been times where Islam was introduced in a more rigid and disciplinary way, where it sort of forced kids to rebel because they were told of the rules of Islam, the black and white, for example: if parents ground young kids for not praying, thus forcing the kid to pray, so his liberties don’t get taken away. The fault in that is, the children won’t have the right intention to pray, they would just think of it as a chore, something to get done. I think it’s important for parents to switch the way they introduce Islam to kids, this way the kids can view Islam as a way of life, and not a chore to do.

Parents don’t understand that a child is Allah SWT amanat to them, they are not their property nor it’s their job to make you happy or to satisfy your wishes. After becoming a mother myself I got to understand how hard it is to accept this but then it is what it is, Allah already mentioned in Quran that you will be tested with your children. Was so eager to watch this podcast to get mama jees insight on how to raise kids as I’m also a new immigrant but while watching it I really wanted to sit along Wajeeh to make mama jee realise no doubt you’ve done a great job in raising your kids but still his points are so valid and now that as a grown up he is discussing this with you, you need to atleast acknowledge him and try to educate others but mama jee still wants to name his grand children 😅 Loved watching this ❤

Wajeeh you should be a little respectful to your mom. I don't agree with many of the things she says but somehow I feel you are not trying to understand her perspective. Nobody is perfect and a parent does the best thing for their kids in the circumstances they are in. When you have kids you can let them be anything they want but the circumstances your mom had she wanted you to be successful and financially independent and not have to face what she faced in her life. The professions she is referring to are the one she probably thought would make you financially strong.

This podcast just reminded me of all the arguments with my parents. While parents are always loved and respected they still need to understand that a child’s life is not its parents life and that the parents need to stop living their lives through their children. It is such a big pressure around that and the generational cycles continue. Another part of this entire conversation I wish we all did talk about is how the desi society has associated only certain occupations with certain genders, eg women can mostly only be doctors or teachers or nothing else because those are the only occupations for them that are respectful. There’s only hope that at least the coming generation can break the toxic cycles.

God this triggers me so much. Indian parents want their kids to sacrifice their lives and future so they can be happy. Forcing your kids into careers they don't want. Good for Ahmed for taking that step. He has shown real strength and courage. Shame on Indian parents with this backwards mentally. In all of the episodes, her ignorance and inability to understand and listen and empathize with her kids is so frustrating to see. I hope you all free yourself from these shackles. Wajeeh - thank you for bringing the difficult aspects into the podcast. Our parents mean well, but may inadvertently harm our esteem, career aspirations, and future in the name of "respect". Let me say watching these podcasts, being an outsider of brown, arab culture etc. I feel like hugging so many people who have been hurt by embedded mindsets and toxicity in many families. These situations that anyone has gone through, know that generational curses CAN be broken, PRAY about EVERYTHING... Even if you think it's silly. God sees your tears and knows your heart, always know that God CAN handle everything your going through. Just give it to him and he'll handle the rest.
