@@stitchfinger7678 Cool. I think anyone saying it should be free should buy a machine and give it away free on their driveway. Very quickly they would have maintenance costs, running costs and vandalism to pay for. Just a fact of life.

The main reason for the valve cap is to protect the valve from mechanical damage or corrosion. If you cut the head off it does not protect the valve any more. In this case you could also screw on permanently a presta/car type adapter, which costs very little and is especially made for that.

@@javierreyes786 the only downside is if you leave the adapter on you can't tighten the small nut on top of the valve - at least not if you don't remove it and put it on again. Otherwise there should be no downside and you could even use a Schrader valve cap on top of the adapter

I remember once a filling station attendant told us the pressure in the pump was "too high for bikes" 😂😂😂 I patiently explained how tyre pressures work but I don't think he was capable of understanding 🤦♂️

Lol, happened to me once too. A customer at the pump was trying to tell me same thing. She couldn't understand how bike tire can hold so much higher pressure than her car😂

The pressure is not too high, but the high flow rate can blow off a tire. Best to add air a little bit at a time for a bike tire.

I just use tubes with Schrader valves. My hand pump and CO2 inflater work with either but running Schrader means if I can get air basically anywhere.

I just carry an adapter piece in my seat tube, theyre cheap and absolutely tiny, even then thats almost rendered redundant by just, you know, carrying a small co2 pump with you and all.

Read your post and just tested to see if a CO2 cartridge fits in a seat post. It does!! What a great place to store an extra emergency CO2. It does require removing the seat post, but who doesn't travel with a hex key?

LOVE THIS GEM for me flatty. Hate those fuel station pumps. Recently I was a proud cyclist when I used my own pump - whilst using it next to that greedy box. One of them stompy bits that squeaks. Heavy but reliable.

If you have very narrow rims they use presta, since presta only needs a 6,5 mm hole while car valves need a 8,5 mm hole. On wider rims the hole size does not matter.

@@jaysee2213 my mtb (XC) has relatively narrow rims too, and also uses presta. One advantage of presta is the air leakage through the valve itself is lower, since the screw you can tighten puts more pressure on the valve gasket than the spring of a car valve. To pump it I use an adapter, with this it's like a car valve to fill up. On other bikes I also use car valves

There are valve adapters or just carry a pump, then you wouldn't have to walk all the way to the gas stations 😅. Imagine you get a flat in the middle of nowhere. There are really good hand pumps that weigh nothing and can go up to 11 bars for 30 to 50 Euro. If you're paying for the air anyway 😅

There are vids where cyclists blow up their expensive carbon rim using a car tyre inflator. Basically the compressor puts out too much air for bike tyres and it pressurises the carbon rim some newer designs have holes to avoid this. Don’t try this unless you know what you doing
