I actually really like this series. Its extremely underrated and i wish people would stop calling it a "dollar store rip off". I'd even say its sightly better than the original.

Splash star is so good! The girls's relation is well developped and cute, their magic is fun; i love the '' Spiral star splash! '' attack, so beautiful! Their cures forms too plus they have two each. Bloom can turn into Bright and Egret into Windy. That's cool 😀It's in this season that we got the first '' villain became friend with the cures '' with Michiru and Kaoru. They also helped Saki and Mai defeated the final boss at the end; became cures for a moment. That was awesome!

Splash Star has now become availible on Crunchyroll! Great to see an underrated gem of the franchise getting an official release! Only thing that could be even better would be Yes5 too (also, fun fact but there is a pitch pilot for a Splash Star English dub. It was going to be made by the same people as the Futari Wa Precure dub).

Splash star is the Joeseph Joestar of pretty cure. Where there are enough visual signifiers to keep things familiar and yet allow for the audience a chance to be primed for getting used to the idea of a change of cast before making much bigger changes right after.

I know this was done for Spoiler reasons but towards the end of Splash Star the brutal style came back. I would even dare say that Splash Star had some of the most brutal fights towards the end.

this is one of 2... well 3 of my favorite seasons of pretty cures and to be honest i never overanalysed it, i just had fun watching it i enjoyed a little bit more phisical style ofmagic while fighting :P evil twins , goyan my briliand bustard and even though i was a bit of annoyed of moerumba and the mole guy the golden guy was pretty interesting in how he respects his enemies and leave them space to grow i screamed in the finale when mega goyan got beating from 4 cures esentially

It really is. There are elements of it that are much stronger, but I can't help but still feel like the leads are a little bit shadows of those who came before. Like, it's completely warranted to point out that there are some not-so-subtle similarities, but I think far too many use that as an excuse to write the season as a whole off.

This show plot twist at the end , not just any plot twist one with foreshadowing too in a gag part of the episode, plus this show was plan to have a 2rd season , but thanks to the low toy sales that didn’t happen , at least the two are in Precure 23 , also sad fact of the VA for one of the Mascot is dead

Not a complaint but you can’t really compare Homokoa and Mai’s moms since Honoka dose not live with her. I feel Honokama grandma would be a better comparison

You’re definitely right. I think I might have messed up and just not noticed that until now. I’m guessing I originally meant to say Nagisa’s mom since she does crop up in Futari wa and Max heart and accidentally said Honoka instead. Whoops!

@@Kawayoporu They are indeed cute, but a lot of them can be summed up in just a sentence. I don’t feel like they have any depth so there’s nothing that I’m personally latching onto. Like, they’re fine. If you like them that’s great and I’m happy for you. They’re just not for me.

@@Kawayoporu summed up - to make a summary of Depth - the range and complexity of a character. The different angles they can be viewed from and their varied relationships with other characters. Latching - personal attachment and investment in a character. They’re just not for me. When I’m watching the show I’m not thinking about the merchandise I could own of the character, but rather if they have an arc or development, how they interact with various other characters, and what they uniquely bring to the show. The problem for me is that these two are somewhat cute (I personally find the little cutsey mascot sentence endings annoying) they’re not much beyond cute. They’re cute but that’s all they are. If you like them for their cuteness, that great and I’m happy you have characters you love, but for me just being cute isn’t enough. I need more or I just don’t get interested or invested in a character.

I finished Splash Star fairly recently. I felt that by herself, Mai is a really weak character in a lot of ways. Quiet, introverted, not assertive, and won't go out of her comfort zone. Opposed to Saki who is very much the opposite in that regard. I think in isolation, Mai would be a little "boring to watch", and Saki would be an "unoriginal happy-go-lucky/energetic" character. As the story progresses it feels like Mai truly becomes dependent on Saki. The dependence being partially an emotional dependence but also her identity quickly becomes truly tied to Saki. That said, I don't think Saki is dependent on Mai in the same way. The way the show expresses this relationship and the differences in strengths and viewpoint between the two characters isn't said as loudly as some of the "moral of the story" messages that exist in episodes in this show (or other precure for that matter). It's subtle but there and very strong. I found this mismatched relationship really interesting, deep and complex. You can really feel how much Mai needs Saki, and because the relationship is 80:20, the moments where Saki needs to rely on Mai stand out so much more. It ended up being a story that I could really gauge the strength of their bond, rather than them just yelling "We're friends!!!" and having to take it at face value. It turns Mai into someone who isn't just boring, but a character that grows in many ways, and Saki from a character who's just a "energetic girl" into a real sunflower.
