I think most people don't really understand how big this is. One of the most influential producers of our time is willing to thoroughly break down a record of one of the top-selling albums worldwide in the last year. I wish more producers were more open and willing to share their process and knowledge like Ian is. This is priceless and truly inspiring, especially for us up-and-coming producers.

Yeah ypu are right. Unfortunately most top producers have ghost producers and they hate competition. This is why we don't see this stuff more often. Not to mention that almost no one is willing to help you to get in to the industry because they are afraid of losing job.

A several times gold/platinum award mega winner producer sharing stuff here for free.... and knowing that this opportunity was brought by the pandemic... Wow!. No matter how things seem to suck so fuckin bad, there should always be something amazing happening on the other side. Ian is a blessing. A source of light. Thank you

Out of all the streamers Ive seen I probably learn the most from Ians. He's a great teacher and super easy to understand on the first listen. It's the creativity and things that I never thought of doing even after a long time of producing. Thank you for posting.

When I started there were no such videos online (youtube had just appeared and the internet was slow). I just listened to the same song over and over again figuring out the different elements inside (I was particularly surprised hats existed, I never consciously heard them before) and I believe that that is a great way to learn. However that way I could never realise how a single element is actually comprised of multiple layers. And Ian here is doing a great job emphasizing on that and pointing to things the average listener is not consciously hearing but make a difference. Great video, great mood!

Incredible. I can remember the first time my brain registered ' Don't start now' - (I say registered because I had heard it in the background before but as with most pop music, I didn't really take notice) I was at the pantomine with my kids in December 2019, and on the interval they played it - and I was like "whaooo that is actually a sick song... I wonder who made it?". For the next few weeks I had it playing over and over in my head, did some research and found out the producers name (Ian)... ok cool, he's a great producer, but I will never know how he made that bassline, those drums etc and that made me sad af fam... well I guess my life is complete now. Thank you so much for doing this, you have no idea how much it means to other producers, to see/hear inside these HUGE hits!..feeling totally inspired now!

hey Ian Kirkpatrick, I am so thankful you did a super nice break down video and its really helpful. I am struggling that if you put a ton of ear candy and fill the space, like you said they are even barely heard ,because even listeners would barely hear that. should I focus on main instruments(sound selection) or songwriting like support melody, chords and bass? its really hard to find balance between them id say, thank you so so much. have a nice day!

It's funny how you say it is a throwaway part of the song (the bridge) when I actually think that it is what embodies the concept of Future Nostalgia as an album. It is funky but also futuristic, honestly, probably the highlight of the entire record.

Hey Ian! was just listening to your vid and you mentionned you listen to Daft Punk and the Beegees for basslines. You should definitly check out the album Tako Tsubo by L'imperatrice. Its a french group who makes disco/synth funk music and their album is just beautiful and extremely addictive production wise. Plus the bassist is an absolute legend. I recommend a quick listen to the song named *Voodoo?*, guaranteed neck pain from the headbops in the second half of the song lmao Let me know your thoughts if you give it a listen and thanks for the breakdown !! Cheers man!
