The Night Feeder may have been designed to look like that in its monstrous form, but the actual Night Feeder was one of the little rapters that ate insects we see in the episode. The reason that it can change forms is because the little raptor found a source of the black tar that the Monkey Men used to nearly beat Fang to death. That magic tar amplifies the speed, strength, and durability of whatever eats it, likely the more consumed the more powerful a creature gets. Krog, the gorilla who beats Fang, in that episode was only given a drop and he was strong enough to completly body a Dinosaur twice his size. Then Spear at the rest of the tar in the dish allowing him to make short work of Krog and the rest of the Monkey Men tribe. We also see a Green Moon in both the Night Feeder episode and the Monkey Men episode, greens moons are never used other than those episodes, maybe the magic Witch tribe episode I don't remember. Not to mention that the Night Feeder and the little rapter look exactly the same, just different sizes. Same long snout, same three digit claws, and same behavior towards the corpses. The little raptor only eats insects so naturally it would be uninterested in the corpses of larger animals, and we also conveniently never see the Night Feeder actually eat from any of the scores of animals it kills. Just goes from one victim to the next, because for who knows how long that is how the Night Feeder supplied itself with plenty of bugs to feast on.

Speed: The Night Feeder was one of the fastest creatures in the Primal series, being able to sprint at unnatural speeds. It easily caught up to a fleeing herd of ceratopsians, and Spear was only able to barely keep ahead of it with the help of surrounding trees and his natural agility. It also boasted excellent acceleration, being able to go from motionless to top speed (or vice-versa) in less than a half-second, allowing it to make sudden strikes on its prey (such as the Smilodon or the first ceratopsian). Loud Screech: While chasing prey, the Night Feeder uttered a high-pitched roar or screech, possibly serving to disorient or terrify prey while hunting. During its hunt of Spear and Fang, it amplified its screech to the point of causing physical pain to its enemies, leaving them vulnerable as it closed in. Claws: The Night Feeder's long claws were capable of cleanly cutting through the toughest masses of skin, flesh, and bone, reducing its victims to maimed or even exploded corpses with one well-aimed strike. In its second attack, it easily bisected a ceratopsian from snout to tail with no loss of momentum. During its pursuit of Spear, it also toppled enormous trees - some having trunks thicker than Fang was tall - with singular slashes. Tracking: The Night Feeder's senses were keen enough to keep up with its speed, letting it efficiently hunt prey in the darkness and navigate the forest even at a full sprint. This may have also contributed to its photophobia, as its dark-adapted eyes could not handle bright light. It could seemingly sense over truly vast distances, flawlessly homing in on creatures far enough away that it still took several minutes to close in even with its freakish speed. Camouflage: The Night Feeder's most impressive feat was its ability to become virtually invisible in poor light conditions, such as nighttime or a dense forest. This enabled it to confuse its prey and perform quick ambush attacks. Skin Oil: The Night Feeder appeared to secrete or otherwise cover itself with a viscous tar-like substance that was foul to smell or taste. The substance may also contribute to its camouflage and/or serve as an aerodynamic lubricant to increase its running speed; however, it also appeared to be extremely flammable, which proved to be the Night Feeder's undoing. Yep it’s an overpowered creature

I believe the night feeder was connected to the black goo from 'rage of the ape men' (which changes your looks and strength). I also believe that it is the compsognathus that features in the beginning of the episode that probably fell into some black goo (which we even see in the night feeder episode, being how fang and spear kill it). The goo also makes you FAR more aggressive which would explain the creature's urge to kill an entire pachyrinosaurus herd and not eat them. And when it is burning to death, if you pause the episode when the creature screams for the last time while it's burning, it (from what we can see) appears to have a compsognathus - like appearance. This theory is covered more in-depth at the 'Alteori' KZitem channel, check it out for more details

The night feeder is a compsognathus. The compsognathus was seen at the beginning of the episode, and if you look closely at its anatomy, you can see that it looks a lot like the night feeder, in addition to the slime that covered it, it was the same one that Spear used to fight with the gorilla king, who also used the black liquid, it could have just happened that some of that goo fell into a lake nearby, and the Comp He simply drank without realizing it.

I loved how primal went full horror mode on three of it's episodes (Plague of Madness, Coven of the Damned, and The Night Feeder). Night Feeder just had that excruciating tension similar to slasher movies, and the fact we never see it only adds to that fear felt in the episode. It truly felt as if it was an unstoppable malicious force of nature that just reveals in the thrill of the kill, rather than kill for survival like our protagonists. It truly was a frightening creature. While I do like a lot of the theories surrounding the compy and the black mutating tar, I think I love the idea of just an evil dinosaur killing for the sake of killing even more. It's a horrifying concept with any species. Killings not motivated by revenge or survival, but because it enjoys the act itself.

A few things that I think add to its creepiness. One, the thing has incredible senses. When the night feeder woke up, it immediately turned its head, stopped, and ran incredibly fast until it ran straight into a pack of triceratops. This thing was so quiet, none of the dinosaurs heard it come up to them despite how fast it was moving. Also, when he says the thing can cleave through things like nothing, he’s not kidding. I heard this really cool theory that the Night Feeder was actually this really small compy-esque Dino that we saw during the day of that same episode. The theory states that this Dino found a natural occurrence of the liquid that the ape men used to become bigger and stronger and fell into it. Hence why it's covered in a strange liquid and has so many supernatural physical abilities. This is also supported by how unreasonably violent the creature is. It wasn't killing things to feed (contrary to the name) it was just obliterating anything it came across and leaving behind mangled corpses as it went on a murderous rampage. That same liquid from a previous episode also seemed to make those who drank it go berserk as well. So yeah, the terrifying Night Feeder may have been just a roided out compy this whole time.

This might come as surprise but the best theory is that it's a compy. There is a tar like substance in primal that can boost a creatures muscle mass, increase its aggression and change it'd size. This substance was used by ape men in one episode and Fang has been shown to be afraid of it, similar to how fang is afraid of the tar in the episode. The copy at the begining of the episode most likely fell into this tar and mutated. Which is why the creature went on a killing spree rather then kill for just food. This tar like substance is pretty much Dino steroids.

One of the theories says, that Night feeder is actually a little… dromeosaurid that was shown in the beginning of the episode, that was covering himself in the black substance from previous episode with kong and hulk. That’s also explains why Fang was so scared of it after she bit him. She remembered that this substance almost killed her back in time.

I'd say the nightfeeder was some sort of hybrid Most likely a baryonx due to its snout A raptor because of its physique And of course a megaraptoid or a therezinosaurus because of it's claws

Nah man, the mad zombie argentinosaurus is the scariest thing to come out of the show. If a thing like that will go wild, i'm afraid only tanks and fighter jets will be your saviors.

The night feeder is more physiologically scary and uncannily scary than actual nightmarishly scary. Its fast, quiet, evasive, strong and almost unseeable in the dark.

The ending of that arc (spoilers) is pretty good, too. The way that Spear and Fang watch it burn, grim faced. Not a howling victory, a great burden undone. It was the staunching of a wound on nature itself. No real glory. Just a dead predator in the great game of survival of the fittest.

Mumi: you have a talent to make other people relaxed. Me: it's because a soldier doesn't fight whats infront of him rather he projects whats behind them. To quote Peter Cullen the voice of Optimus Prime "be strong enough to be gentle".

It’s probably some cross breed, kind of like how dogs can cross breed. It has the camouflage and looks of a baryonyx, claws of a therizinosauras, and a bit of a mega raptor like face.

Alteori had a great theory on this. The black goo the night feeder is covered in is similar to the black goo the apes drank to make them even stronger. Plus, there was a full moon on both nights the night feeder and the apes were in contact with this substance granting them power, meaning the moon makes this goo lycanthropy juice. Now if this is true, what could the night feeder be when not covered in the goo? We’ll notice the small Dino. In the night feeder episode that got a good bit of screen time trying to catch a fly? That little bugger got covered in the black goo and it turned him into the crazy terrifying night feeder!

That claws remind me of the "Therizinosaurus" in Jurassic World: Dominion, it just reminds me of that, because it's not covered in tar, It's the claws.

The most terrifying part of this whole episode is that because we never 100 percent find out the night feeders backstory or see it in a normal way( the only time we see it is during the scene where it’s on fire) there’s a chance that this thing wasn’t a mutation or supernatural creature but is instead a animal species fang and spear just happened to have not seen before and they walked close enough to the forest where it lives or even worse where they live and got attacked by it and finally and most chilling of all is that whether it was a unique creature that was changed or a normal species we never find out if it was full grown this could have been a juvenile for all we know

i think i made a dino oc once can’t remember much other than its abilities: As big as an elephant, as heavy as 5 cars, can run as fast as a jet, claws are huge, curved and sharp, Two sets of teeth facing backwards, weakness fire, water and ice fire because its blood is very flammable water because it can’t swim and ice because body is not very durable

Im a little late, but the lore behind the night feeder is that the black tar stuff is some sort of energy boosting mix, as the same black goo can be seen in another episode. In which it was drank by a monkey leader of a monkey tribe, and it made them HUGE, then the MC drank a lot more than them, then turned giant and blue, killing the entire tribe, in other words, the goo is why the night feeder is so deadly. However, it wore off for the MC, so i guess the night feeder became as such close to the time of its discovery.
