After 563 hours, my cape is hung, helldivers was a dream come true when it dropped and anyone looking for a co-op shooter would agree, but the updates and "fixes" have turned it sour for a lot of reasons, bot drops used to come in the form of drop ships, and you could hear the patrols calling a cadence until they were engaged/alerted, you could see proximity enemies via rendering and if you were running scout they would blip, but since the last update I've noticed after clearing a drop or patrol this thick fog would roll in around me and then I get lit up by more patrols that have spawned directly on my position you can claim skill issue but when a hulk falls on you from nowhere and kills you, skill goes out the window as that feels like a cheap death, almost like the A.I is saying I know if I put this hulk on your screen you will kill it before it can harm you, so I'm just going to drop it right on your head, no alert for bot drops detected no sound cue, just a hulk standing where my character was and my character is now a puddle under its feet, congrats Arrowhead, we now know how it feels to be Rebecca from cyberpunk edge runners

See I'm a big fan of the dirt puffs from the impaler. They'll appear infront of you so you run around it but then you're suddenly knocked into space. Or heavy devastators spawning inside of mountains, shooting you straight through the terrain. Or the bug that's existed since launch where you'll get hit- your camera goes to space but you stay alive on the surface. I'm glad they took the time to nerf some weapons that weren't OP and not to fix issues that plague the game. Like- thank goodness they got that impaler in the game along with the mortar tank. Two enemies that will ruin- er, I mean, really challenge you on defense missions. You won't even know they're there and they attack you from outside the complex while hundreds of enemies run past them to build a wall between you and them to make sure you can't kill them easily. Looks like we have another game type they'll have to remove till they can figure out how to make it work.

@@Nartanek Narrative framing being Super Earth stagnated over their century of victory and lack of threats, sure, fine, happens all the time in these kind of settings- like the Scythe already looks shoddy and MacGyver'd but then the Rover is a Scythe literally just electrical taped to a drone. I don't really see that as a problem fundamentally. Just when that fluff starts to impact gameplay for the sake of it is when we start running into problems. Things like the HD2's laser weapon cooling mechanics I don't perceive as flavor getting in the way, just another example of the team not understanding how to balance for the game they actually made (as in they throw far too much at the players to handle with your fighting power stopping to reload or cool down every 3 seconds when you have 60 mobs chasing you down or showering you with gunfire from all angles)

It's like the people who made the 1st game knew how to make the core gameplay loop fun, & provided longevity to the game with expansive & powerful unlock trees. Now we have the complete opposite design in HD2. On top of that we have WAY more content in HD1, more guns, more stratagems, more mission types, more enemy types, etc. So much for providing that "next-gen experience" guys amirite? In HD1 death was largely a part of the game. The camera view didn't change to spectating or dropping in from above, and lives were endless as long as somebody was alive. In HD2, death feels a lot more punishing and as a result high difficulty can give a sour taste in the stomach when caught in a deathloop. I want to feel more powerful to avoid death whereas in 1 I didn't mind it as much. Oh I forgot, where's my REP-80? I wanna be team medic again. :)
@MelodusDethicus
16 күн бұрын
Yeah, the deathloops are awful in HD2. Can't get to your support weapon that deals with heavies because it's guarded by heavies at the objective you're trying to get to, your stuff is still on cooldown, and everywhere you turn there's heavy enemies you can't necessarily counter because our stratagems have stupid long cooldowns? Womp womp. It's terrible. The game can snowball into suck really fast on the higher difficulties, which is why so many consider them more and more tedious because it's a lot of work with little payoff whether that payoff be fun or in-game gains.

Hay Thicc! One thing I just remembered, The Reinforcements are only Unlimited when playing with OTHERS. When you play solo you only get 5 respawns (just like Helldivers 2 funny enough), BUT you also gain 1 respawn per completed Objective. Why we don't GAIN respawns from getting shit done is beyond me in HD2 I will never know. In Helldivers 2 The Super Destroyer upgrades are clearly supposed to be the "Stratagem" upgrades. Now we just need Customization for our Weapons and hopefully all will be Right in the world. Also, getting the Upgrade points really isn't that hard long as you keep up on your Sample collecting. If you bring the HAV Recon Drone Stratagem (reveals sample locations indicated by a Beaker and "hidden" objectives) and a APC you can CRUISE around the maps picking up all the Samples with your squad. I did this quite a bit in Helldivers 1, and no one ever seemed to mind, plus its helpful for Newer/lower level players. The APC can just ROADKILL the Patrols or you just shoot them with mounted weapons. EVERY 10 SAMPLES = 1 UPGRADE point, and their is like..... 20 to 30 on the map on higher difficulties. And Most of the time, we DID in fact grab every sample on map. Which is a SHARP contrast to Helldivers 2 where on level 10 there is 87(!!!!!) SAMPLES on map, GOOD LUCK FINDING THEM!!!!! Every god dame mission you will find: all 7 pinks, 20-25 Commons, and like 10-20 rounds. Out of the 40 Commons 40 Rares, and 7 pinks. WHY ARE SAMPLES SO HARD TO SEE WITHOUT THE ICON?!

Are the planets controlled by Super Earth just a barren planet with minimal human settlement or base and just a floating rock in space without any reclamation or re-population?

Words cannot express how much I would LOVE it if the Tanto Laser SMG got into Helldivers 2. The Dagger and Ballistic Shield combo is already pretty good, but the Dagger is limited by its damage and how fast it overheats. A perfect scenario would be them giving the Scythe a proper scope with range options, and then adding in the Tanto (with the red dot sight) and give it the same damage and overheat time as the Scythe, that way you have the choice between long range, or a one handed weapon. I've taken a break from Helldivers right now due to boredom and frustration over the weapons, but if they added in the Tanto like this, I'd be back online in a heartbeat.

I will say that, while HD1 has more progression tan HD2, neither of them implement it very well. Picking up samples (your primary way of generating research points, since the only other way is getting 1 per level-up) is a distraction from the main draw of the game, and it can be mentally exhausting having to run around picking them up when you'd rather be playing the game. I see this as the primary issue with HD1, that the primary resource for the progression is not given generously enough. It's very easy to get disheartened by getting something new and cool, and going, "Welp, guess I'll go farm samples again." But if you can push through it, you do wind up having a very fun collection of tools at your disposal, and no shortage of enemies to throw them at. I'd definitely be interested in a part 2 further down the line once you have a more complete experience under your belt, maybe focusing on the key differences in gameplay between each faction (within HD1 and what's different between them in HD2), and your opinions on the map and mission design of HD1. Maybe with a much more complete armory, you can do a more comprehensive breakdown of how similar strategems behave differently between games, which ones are "This but better," or "that but worse". I think a small but important point of note would be how many strats deploy perpendicularly to your throw, and whether that's actually better or worse or doesn't really wind up making a difference in the end. ~~You could probably milk these as individual videos easily enough~~

Evening all allow me to add my input on this video also. Small background I found HD1 when it had been out roughly 2 years so much of the DLC and the finalized version weren’t too far out or still currently releasing and or updating so gave it a good 170 hours ish back then. Stopped at rank 24 right before I believe as well getting the achievement for reaching 25 and unlocking the final gun. Did at times run into those who were capped at 50 ( I know funny how that used to be the cap don’t quite care for 150 on HD2 being the new cap), but those must’ve been players who were around since day 1, but I digress. 1. Progression I would say was a mixed bag. Since HD1 did operate off their war campaign system so I believe it was on monthly rotations you would fight the 3 factions and try to overall win and at times all 3 could be attacking at once. This matters because unlocking weapons came from leveling as a whole and stratagems were specifically for completing the planets missions of the different factions. So if the month was only bug planets you could only get the stratagem unlocks correlated to their planets until the campaigns switched. Kinda would mean as well popping back in now and then to see if it had because bugs and bots did get tiresome and the Illuminates were usually seen as the harder ones to fight since shield technology and messing with keybinds, teleporting, tron wall technology, and so forth. I saw one comment mention the urban design. Well that was specifically and only used during the occasions which was many when the enemy factions made it to super earth. Those were the only time you’d get to fight amongst the streets of the populace not to mention there was times when the game would do challenges example being everyone is only giving (x) weapon and other equipment and y’all have to do whatever mission and that was mainly for more exp since it was needed to well… unlock more of the base guns. Still can’t believe the bayonet never made it back into HD2 so far and even when they gave us a knife you telling me that just can’t be a permanent thing always like standard issue on us over replacing our entire grenade! 2. I drastically do miss the ability to upgrade weapons and stratagems alike even though the other half of that was that it took 10 individual samples collected to equal 1 upgrade point, but with a simple game loop and or vehicles for multiple players and or the drone stratagem that would always be paramount for instantly marking all the samples on the map and or objectives that were hidden (once you start playing higher difficulties amongst all the factions) it wasn’t a problem. Heck we had a all random loadout option out of a total 4 loadouts you could have saved which if you went all random is what the veteran players would normally do then completing the mission for them individually also gave more exp. 3. Ya some stratagems were flat out better definitely with infinite uses (when waiting on cooldowns) or because again we could upgrade everything individually to be more effective. Same goes for the weapons. To add the missions like one comment mentioned with the defusing mines and or let’s say escorting the shot down ship of survivors since it was only needed that you just couldn’t fail more than half of the missions on a planet we’d at least in the survivors case or the literal retrieve the black box mission run off a cliff so it can’t be retrieved or just kill all the survivors or again with the shared screen thing some would just die being too far away while leading so you only need one to make it back for it to be a success. Infinite lives I will always say is better as long as like you mentioned full wipe doesn’t occur and nobody threw the reinforce beacon. I also wouldn’t know how they’d balance bringing the bosses back or if there is a shadowy 4th faction but that’s for years later to decide… as long as they don’t do a pvevp that killed Lost Planet Franchise after Lost Planet 3 was made there’s hope… I’m mainly waiting on Space Marine 2 and Starship Extermination to finally come to console in the coming months and I’m set. 4. Saw another comment from a now retired diver who said like 500+ hours in well I may be not too far behind him (funny enough around 420 hours in) but even with them adding another difficulty mode with 10 we use to have 12 or I might be remembering wrong and it was 15 but like 12-15 the only rewards those offered was massive amounts of exp for completing the planets which again you usually had 2-3 individual missions on the planet to complete before having the planet as a whole complete to unlock the stratagem or big exp reward so you were getting a lot of exp regardless when playing those difficulty’s (all of which I did in HD1 where at least by doing the highest difficulty’s you also got fancy capes from each faction… not too dissimilar to the one given for defeating the bots on malevelon creek but still where’s that equivalent for the bugs) I can only mention without the illuminates, more of the older stratagems, and stabilizing the patches not much for me still in HD2 the warbpunds ain’t doing much for me either heck I also truly wonder when can we change the color on the fricking armors anything really. 5. O and don’t think I forgot about another thing that didn’t exist in HD1…. STOP THE CAP! Stop it on samples and stop it on freaking medals… granted this one is definitely a veteran player take, but always it seems all the warbpunds (aside from the first one that goes to like 2000 medals I believe) stop before 700 capping our medals at 250 usually gives enough for the first 2 rows… I also swear I don’t know when I didn’t notice it but I swear I thought it was you had to get everything in each box before going to the next once I noticed it would say above the box how many medals needed to be spent within the box’s section to start unlocking stuff within the next section of the warbpunds I’m like “ why have I been getting these lack luster emotes, player cards, and the meager SC when I can just go for the weapons) I’ll even say the ship upgrades were better as well when much of that in HD1 was better as separate star gems, but even their prices keep rising with lackluster results… I type this as I’m getting back on HD2 to get this last current ship upgrade… 250 rare samples for another 10% reduction in eagle strategems… having the old system of 10 samples for a upgrade point I’ll take over needing 3 different type of samples, and you know the next ship upgrade I swear they’ll raise as well to eventually be 500 of each sample but at that point… (and granted commons are capped at 500, rates 250, and I believe supers is 125 the only thing left they can raise for the ships is the amount of super samples). I’m also gonna say it but I’ll even take some other body types at this point even more voices. There’s way too much that could expanded upon in those areas for fun.

I'm telling you , the fact they made the "support weapons" a stratagem instead of a weapon just like the primaries was a really bad idea. They simply shot themself in the foot in term of gameplay but ALSO for warbonds ! Because of that simple design , they made the weapons sold in any warbonds lackluster or else the support weapon would be useless, but at the same time they can't sell you the weapons in the warbonds well enough because...they are kinda shit ! One of the easiest solution would be to rework how stratagems are obtained and remove the support weapons from the pull of free stratagems all together and make them warbond weapons/ level weapons that you unlike and equip like a normal weapon without using a stratagem slot. For example, the Vigorous would be an unlockable primary at lvl 5 and for 10 000 requisitions while the heavy machine gun would be a support weapon for lvl 25 and 50 000 requisitions and let's say the Arc thrower would be in the cutting edge warbond as a support weapon . This way, you can actually make primaries on par in term of power level with the so called "support stratagem weapons" freely !

In HD1 I often saw randoms w/o voice comms use team reload. In HD2 no one bothers with it. I believe the shared screen is only a small reason. In HD2 it works super awkward, you have to go to the right side of the teammate to be able to do it, it does not work reliably. I think team reload needs to be instant just like in HD1, pretty much just as you give stim to teammate in HD2 currently.

From my experience, it's also a little easier to identify those alarm-signaling scouts in the pod of enemies, making mercing them first less of a crapshoot. Compared to 2 where honestly the Commissars look way too much like normal Raiders to clearly pick out from a distance if you don't have a scoped weapon. Putting aside that it doesn't matter if you shoot it, the Raiders will just fire the flare instead, or how pretty much every low level 'Nid can call a breach so if you don't wipe the pod in one attack, that alarm is getting raised.

When it comes to the ammo economy, I would rather have the more reliable but slightly weaker laser weapons ANY day of the week! In horde shooters I have a bad habit of using "infinite" builds (even if they are worse for dps), and the lasers in hd1 litteraly never overheat, as soon as you stop firing, the weapon vents it's heat in like 1-2 seconds. A 99% heat sickle in hd1 takes less than 2.5 seconds to FULLY cooldown, while in hd2 it takes like 7-8 seconds, and that's AFTER the one second delay when you let go of the trigger before the gun even starts to cool off. I would also really love it if they changed the sickle in hd2 to not have a "wind up" before it fires, there have been times where I got shot in the face by a bot because the sickle needs to charge up before I can shoot, which gave the bot ample time to dome my ass in the head. I don't know if that's been fixed (haven't played HD1 in ages), but what killed it for me was the awful campaign system that forced you to play against a single enemy faction for several weeks once the other two have been wiped off the map. So there's at least that one thing HD2 improved upon.

@@thiccfila Nobody knows for sure, but HD2's campaign is actively moderated and continusously pushed forward by game masters, so the chance of a HD1 scenario where you're fighting a single faction for two months is probably next to zero (unless they want to kill what remains of the player base). HD1 had no such thing. Once the cyborgs were gone, they remained so until the conclusion of the campaign, which could take forever because the player base dwindled once two factions were gone. But we can also look at HD2's past: We removed the automatons from the map in april. How long were they gone before the GM pulled an automaton fleet out of his hat and added them back to the game? I loaded up HD2 to see the condition. Thought i had deleted it but just hadnt updated and logged in. Honestly the game is depressing. ARs are painfully useless. Sub machine guns do the same thing for half the hand. And ARs feel like22 LR weapons. Ultimately i was using a support MG as my primary instead. Note i didnt go passed level 4 cuz i wanted to see how primaries feel. This was a primary test, not a anti-amror test. And the results were sad. Two shots from a tenderizer is what it takes to reliably stop all starting mobs. Im sorry but a tenderizer should one shot a small bug to the body. Especially since the incind breaker does it no problem. This pointed to another issue. Without the incind breaker there is no way to fight back. On level 2 you are just always falling back. And so you need a reliable primary. So you either use the breaker or the MGs just to replace a useless slot. The primaries need to be reworked. Cuz right now there is only one reliable primary and that's the breaker incind. Even with only 4 mags it is exponentially more effective than the other primaries, shotguns included. I have a booklet full of current issues after last night but no one plays this game anymore but no life try hard who want the game endlessly on 7 plus difficulty.

Imma keep this short since I wrote out a long comprehensive comment and my web browser crashed and I can't be bothered to retype it all. My biggest gripe with HD2 vs HD1 is how everything either feels useless among a sea of strats and guns not to mention objective variety. A lot of strats boil down to bomb, other bomb, more bomb, a strafing run with bombs (I'm joking of course but I'm just furthering my point on how so many things feel the same even if they appear totally different) I find myself using the same 4 strats with the same 2 weapons every time regardless if enemy faction as nothing feels ineffective against either the cyborgs or terminids. In HD1, most strats did feel unique and I found myself really considering what to bring everything, not to mention having more varied locations, the illuminate being in the game since the beginning etc. Overall, HD2 is still great and with the recent news of shifting the focus to fun over unnecessary balancing which makes the game feel more like COD I can only see things getting better and add a level of variety that has been severely lacking since launch.

Weapon upgrades don't mean as much if you don't have to pick between things. If you can have all 3 upgrades on a weapon, all it does is make the player feel some progression, but the game mechanics don't change meaningfully versus having the fully upgraded weapon available from the start, and not having upgrades. Upgrading weapons is not customization unless you're making a choice. And this irks me a bit about HD2 player upgrades. Everytime they release new destroyer upgrades it is just a matter of time before you have all of them, and you don't choose 1 of them to be active in your loadout. All the current upgrade system does is make the game easier as you unlock things. Whoop dee doo, muh progression ;D. Let's release difficulty 10 guys cause the game got too easy cause we released a bunch of permament player upgrades. I'd like the upgrade system to create choice for the player. They would need to make a loadout system ofc to support it.
