I still can't wrap my head around anyone who would want to train. All of the gold in Ghana wouldn't get me to share such a small space with some Gen Zero with issues. Good video, Rich. What a broken system.

The main problem with Prime is that there's to many people in leadership roles who've never driven a truck trying to tell us how to do our jobs. My philosophy is Dont tell me how to do my job unless youve done it yourself

I inquired about training at Prime and once I found out that if a trainee causes a claim, I have to pay the insurance deductible, I said no thank you. Its primes employee, they can pay the deductible if THEIR trainee causes a claim. F!ck that

I had a guy in grad class who thought once he got his truck, he could move his wife on to his truck. Stevens transport said nope. He had to drive solo for 3 months before he could take on riders. He was a broken man after that.

I trained for a little while, had a student cause 4k in damage to my truck, didn’t apologize even once. Being a trainer you take on 100% of the liability that you don’t ever get compensated for accordingly. You make decent money, but the money you make is what we should be getting paid for being a solo driver OTR, each student you take, can end your career either by a he said/she said or they total your truck and move on not spending more than 20 minutes to get their stuff out to move to another truck, and your stuck having to figure out your next move to get out of the 5-8k hole you were thrown into. I won’t train ever again

I understand Tim’s frustrations with his student, if you want to call him a student. But Tim handled the situation entirely unprofessional and incorrectly. Tim had mentioned having numerous issues with this trainee, that would not have only had him terminated immediately but would have had him removed from his truck prior to the final situation that occurred. Tim never reported it and thought he could go around it. Like the cell phone usage while driving, leaving the receivers property not telling Tim, and so on. Tim should have called his Fleet manager and reported it. And should have told his student that if he desired to be on his truck then he would focus on his job and want to learn rather than be lazy and careless or he would speak to the FM and have him return to the terminal for assignment. Tim’s big mistake was to leave him at a Truck Stop and go a half a mile down the road to a Blue Beacon basically abandoning him at the truck stop. When the trainee called him he could have simply said “hey I went down the road to the blue beacon and once I’m done I’ll come back pick you up and we can head to the 90. I’m just trying to kill two birds with one stone. You weren’t ready and we are on a time crunch, be ready when I get back” The fact that he told him that he left because he wasn’t ready and that he could walk if he wanted to simply is a punishment for not being ready. Now I can understand why he was pissed and why he wanted to teach him a lesson. You simply cannot do that to a student, regardless of your personal feelings. He should have simply contacted his Fleet manager and reported him stating that he was going to cause a service failure for his actions and requested him to be removed from his truck. Tim stated that it was against his better judgement to not train him. Well then he should have insisted on not doing so. His FM can not force him to. The problem with some of these trainers that Prime has is that they are unprofessional, hot tempered, and impatient. They think about the $$$ and didn’t have real desire to train to help others. They also don’t report and communicate to their FM often enough on the progress of the student. In all honesty. Prime should be paying for the student not the driver, and the trainer and trainee should be sleeping at the same time. This 50k combined team training miles doesn’t teach, it abuses the system. You’re not learning anything while your trainer is sleeping. And your trainer doesn’t know what you’re doing wrong if he is. Prime needs to restructure and prioritize their training program. They use their students for gain and put their trainers at risk by putting inexperienced drivers behind the wheel with little to no experience.

system is wrong: trainer pays trainee, and freight market being the way it is, trainer is left behind. this creates trainer to run more and breaks motivation. teaching becomes secondary. also no one should be a trainer if they don't have continues 2 years OTR experience with no violations and Springfield trainer certification is a JOKE..

Should only have to pay for in my opinion the workman's composition because it's our truck but with the market the way it is like you said it is becoming almost impossible to make money having to pay them over $1,000 a week is truly sad that they won't change this I also agree that a lot of these students that come out do you feel like they are some kind of entitlement and think that they can manage and control our truck

Im sure they have a reason. I havent drove for about 20 years. I worked at Werner they had the same around 275 hours. It was differnt for me. I wanted to drive, trip plan etc to learn. GPS were not popular in the trucking at the time. We were still relying off Maps and written directions in the Qcomm. Once we get close we would use the CB and see if anyone been to the facility. Im sure they have several reasons why they dont so the hours. At the end of the day companies purpose is to make profit and keep the share holders happy.

I think it has something to do with being sued or with the labor board getting paid at least minimum wage hourly. so 70 hours a week times minimum wage is what they at least wanna pay them. Goes to show you why they pay us by mile instead of by the hour lol. we spend so much time at the shippers and receivers and many other situations where we are working for free. It's no wonder why they pay us by the mile

I’ll need to watch Tim’s video to get some context. Your video has too many flaws to ignore. Maybe too many to list here. One your too one sided on the trainers. There are bad trainee’s as much as there are bad trainers. Trainees do not get paid 1200 a week. Just got my Prime truck over a couple of months ago. You get paid by the hour for a minimum of 8 hours. If my trainer only had me drive for 5 hours I still got paid for 8. BUT if I drove for 10 hours I got paid for 10 hours. Or anything after the 8 hour minimum. Only way someone makes 1200 is if they are running hard all week long. Earning it, as you put it. Prime promises 900 a week. I freaking wish. My checks were like 600 most weeks. So it varies. You also talk about entitlement. I see it the opposite way. Or I see it it as there are bad apples on both sides. You’re paying for the student because the student is making you the trainer a shit load of money. Trainees aren’t even taking half of it home. Barely a quarter . Done the math. Was shown it by my trainer. Have no personal issues with it. You already know that money shouldn’t be the incentive to train. It should be the willingness to pay it forward. Also just like you’re the captain of your ship. While the student is on the truck and on the clock they should be the captain of the ship. That doesn’t mean that they live without consequences for being lazy. But the trainer should not dictate when the student drives. Only when he/she drives and then it’s up to the student to drive the rest and help get the load there. Also sounds like you’re more worried about the student getting miles for you rather than training them. You know the biggest problem I have right now is backing and pre planning my trips. Because I was taught the bare minimum. On our days off while waiting for a load he could have had me practice backing, but he didn’t. I see so many new people like myself that are struggling to back up in a sick because their trainer only has them drive. Driving is the easiest part. Trainers need to teach their student how to maneuver the truck.
