I appreciate you posting this. good to have a point of reference when i have to maintain. I just picked up the hub, always trusted Primo products since the 90's.

Thank you so much for this! I took the wheel off today totally confused then Sean Porter sent me this video. Inside the axle there’s 8mm Allen teeth. Is that for tightening the non drive side cones?
@bmxdirectza

Hey hey, happy to help. 8mm broach inside the axle is useful for getting the cones off or tightening up before you put it back together. It's also useful if you end up stripping the female bolt or or the bolt seizes up in the axle. You can atleast then grab something and loosen the wheel out of the frame etc.

Do you know if I can change my 14mm male axle to 3/8 female axle? I see empire bmx has the axle with 3/8 bolt. Is that all I would need to convert it to 3/8? I would imagine it’s the same parts for both axles but I’m concerned about the cones fitting on the 3/8 female axle. I don’t want to order it to find out it don’t work or I need more parts to make it work.

I really could not say, I have no idea if the threads inside the primo are compatible with the 3/8" studs you mention. I doubt it though. Those 3/8" studs are years old and were designed for a different hub KHE/ Ares i think. I'd say rather sell what you have to get a 3/8" axle hub, spare yourself the nightmare of trying to figure out if the parts are compatible or not. (As it is parts for these style hubs are becoming harder to get and many brands are shifting away from this clutch/ driver type).

Well that hub was available in 3/8 female axle and 14mm so there has to be a way to swap it out. I just figured someone has seen both axles to know if cones are the same. I ordered the axle so I’ll report back if it fits. Worth a shot. If not I’ll sell the hub and get a different hub. I should of called TIP plus just to confirm fitment. I didn’t even think of calling them.

Do you recommend it ?, This system is better than the traditional freecoaster ?
@bmxdirectza

I recommend it yeah. Its easier to maintain and the parts are more durable than the previous model. THe driver bearing is now a needle bearing and they have removed that shitty ball/ spring system on the axle. AND soooo SMOOOTH to roll with!

@bmxdirectza

You may need to add/remove some small spacer inside the driver cover/cap. There is a small paper washer inside against the roller bearing.
